This year, if you have a little extra money (as if), pick up a few cans of cat or dog food, a case would be better!) and take it to your local Humane Society. They also accept your old blankets and towels for bedding.
If you live in the country, put a few bales of hay and a salt lick out for the deer, or even a few cans of food left out at the back of your property once in awhile will be appreciated by strays.
Another thing is water. Eating snow lowers body temperature and can be deadly for animals. If possible, try and leave out some water for them... birds too!

Hi all,
Kraft, what a great thought! Thanks for starting the thread.
This is something anyone can do.
My Mom and I put the seeds our picky pampered parrots leave in their bowls out for the wild birdies. They love it!
The thrift shop where I volunteer donates the too-worn-to-be-sold blankets, towels, sweaters, etc., to our local Humane Society.
The other day I was talking to the lady who takes care of delivery, thinking maybe we were inundating them with donations. (The back of her pick-up is full up every single week!) She said no, they use everything we give them and the more the better.
The worn-out socks people leave on our donation table are tied in a knot. The puppies love them as toys, ditto the old stuffed animals.
Even little knitted and crocheted projects that were never completed are very welcome. They use them to keep the tiny kittens warm.

Also carpeting. If you are getting new carpeting call your humane society and see if they want your old one. There are still some good pieces left and it makes a great barrier between the floor and the pet.

Wow, I've never seen anyone drink that much beer in one sitting Trai! Anyway, drive carefully (and thanks for the visit!)
Thanks Lucy and Prof.
