Hi:
For the last week,I finally got off my butt and started to write a site.
I'm not using templates, I'm writing it as I go.
I know not, what I'm doing so it's been up hill all the way.
I have accomplished something, I think!
I know it will need more fine tuning.
The site is building in my head as I go.
And I don't yet know how to do everything I think of, that's what makes it hard!

I thought I'd post it here for some thoughts.
Just like to know if you think I'm headed in the right direction.
Take a look, I have some more questions, but I want to see what you think first.

Dukes Emporium

Dadof, I'm not sure what you're asking. Did you want us to comment on your html tags?

Great Start....Lots of good information. Layout pretty good. Your Blue Duke's page is pleasing to read. What I don't like is your bright white first page. I think it needs to be more pleasing to the eye. I would also make your Big Dukes Emporium a clickable link into your second page and on your first page make your clickable links more appealing with graphics. You need a little spunk to your first page. Hit them with some great graphics. Be sure you add an email logo.

Your second page when finish will be great. You sure have the work to do though.

Please though don't hook up Duke with Ralphie

My opinion for what is is worth. Keep it up. Good Work and Good Luck.

Just want some input on what I've done so far.
Does it look OK or am I going about it all wrong?
I don't know, just wanted some thoughts.

All I'm seeing are your HTML tags.

Me too Cheryl. In any event, I think a website is a great idea.

Your Blue Duke's page is pleasing to read.
Do you think it would be better if I used the Blue for every page?
I like blue, was thinking of changing 1st page color anyway.
My wife don't like red letters, says it too hard on eyes.
on your first page make your clickable links more appealing with graphics.

Haven't figured out how to do that yet.
Just took the first thing I could half understand.

All I'm seeing are your HTML tags.

What would cause that?
Something I need to do, or is it your Browser?

Dad....Great Start! Good for you!
I like the blue better than the white page but if you keep the white page maybe change the red lettering to something darker or bolder...
Everything was easy and non complicated.. that I like.. good luck..Keep up the good work! Keep us posted as you progress. Maggie

Everything works except your emporium link. It goes to a source page showing your html. You oughta check that page out, I think somethings busted there.

Otherwise pretty nice, simple, I like that. How do you plan to help folks find your page?

I'm not sure in the future, what I'll do.
For some time now I've had listing in Google Ad Words under a couple Keywords.
But I can't see where that has done much more than cost money, not much because the CTR has been low.

Right now I'm building this on my free ISP web space.
If it gets running they won't let me stay, will use too much Space and Bandwidth.

Hoping to get a Domain name and a regular Web Host.
I don't know but I hope they will enter me into search engines.
Am I right or wrong in thinking that they will?

I am in IE and I see it fine.

Are you still going to sell on eBay? If so link it in your about me page but then you have to link your me page in your auctions some way. I don't have a web site but I do link from my auctions into my about me page with my guarnatee. In my Paymane and Shipping Details I say sell my about me page for my guarantee and the about me is clickable to it.

You could use a beige, or a lighter blue than your next page. Not a pale green and of course not a pink since your a male. I am not fond of the red either, black is better. There are colorblind buyers also and I think red is a bad color. But after you get it set up those are easily changed. I wouldn't worry about that until your finished then you can change.

There are sites that tell about accessibility.

It looks like a mere 3-4 years of reading and I may figure out how it works.

OK... Here's a question!

If I build this site where I am now.

And after I get it the way I want, and transfer it to a Web Hosting Site.

Won't that make it accessible to all?

It works fine for me on IE, but not Firefox.

It looks like the problem is simple enough to fix. I'm not seeing an .html extension. Try renaming the "Dukes" file to "Dukes.html".

With no extension, the browser doesn't know how to translate the file, so it's assuming a text file.

please ,leave your dog in the backyard, not in your shop!!
your pet has no business being on the front page of your business.
you dont really need to mention when you ship, shoppers expect you to ship promptly,Visa/Mastercharge dictates you ship within 24 hours.
say something about what you sell and how great they are,we dont want to know how cute your pet is or how old you are and how did you ever get to be a seller??
blue is a soothing color but you need more colors for contrast.
you may want to showcase a few of your showstoppers on home page to catch people attention

take a look at yahoo shops, many paid webdesigners to do their website and some are still paying for it.
I am not crazy about them, but it gives you some ideas.

The emporium page still only works on Internet Exploder, not Netscape, not Mozilla, not FireFox nor Safari. I don't think uploading the files as written to a web hosting company will necessarily fix it, unless you pay to have it rewritten.

Also, you do have some word usage and spelling errors. Be sure and have another person edit your text for mechanics. It's important.

to answer your question on webhosting and search engines.yahoo will host your site for a fee per month and submit your site to all the search engines.
i am sure others can recommend other hosts ,some may be better than yahoo.
I am on AOL,I have no problem coming to your site.
familybiz who posts on ebay has a site, may be you can ask him.

Hi Dad,

When I clicked on the category links I got EarthLink > Error > Page Not Found.

I'm on IE.

You do need to do some proofreading before you go live. I noticed quite a few misspelled words.

yes,people do buy from websites.
I have been bidding more on Ebay and the results are mixed, the time it takes to find the item, read all the terms, decipher what the seller is saying and what he really means to say, assess what if it is item not as described and how much is shipping(each seller has his own way of shipping and how much he charges),and how he want to be paid and what if he takes off without shipping etc is exhausting.
In the end,the bad deals pretty much cancel the good deals and all that work looking for them,is it worth it??
Also ,how many of us would want to give a gift which is not as described, packaged poorly with a filthy bag with a dead cockroach and has chips and smear not mentioned and not shown in a picture??

I bid on Ebay for things that I specifically collect or am looking for myself. I wouldn't risk buying a gift there. I did all my present buying online at several different sites. I compared prices to the same items on Ebay and the price difference was usually negligible, not enough to warrant the risk.
