The eye doctor No really if it is your first eye examination I think they say you should go to an Opthamalogist. He is an MD. He dialates your eyes. The reason to make sure you have no serious medical problems with your eyes.

After that they say in the future you can go to an Optomotrist. Now some Optomotrists do dialate your eyes but not all of them.

Optomotrists i.e. Lens Crafters, DOC are cheaper but sometimes cheaper isn't better.

Do an internet search to see who and what is the best.

Good Luck

thanks,i do have an eye doctor and he examined my eyes and gave me new prescription for regular glasses,he said contact will be extra.
he and his staff were rather rude,so i dont want to go back.
i think you are right, those lenscrafter places have lousy staff.

Stopwhining. In the State of Wisconsin the eye doctors refused to give prescriptions out for contact lenses and they said it was illegal so now they do. The prescription for glasses is different than contacts. Call you doctor and ask for your prescription for contacts and see what they say and if they say no ask why. I know you can be persistant.

I think you can order contacts on the internet pretty cheap and that is why they don't want to give you that script. They don't want to lose out on the money. Did he offer you contacts when you were there instead of glasses? I know when I had mine tested last he asked if I wanted contacts or glasses but that was long ago.

he charges a higher fee for examining your eyes and precribing contact lenses,i think the optical stores do the same.
if the doc has a store which sells eyeglasses and will order contac lens for you, they are more expensive than internet discount ones, but the quality is better, they dont rip easily.

The ones you can order on the internet are disposable ones. I think. Wear them x amount of days and throw them away. But I can say about the physician ones because my daughter and her husband replace them alot because of ripping. I think it is how you take care and handle them. It's good to have both just in case especially if you rip your contact. You probably won't need another exam for 5 years and by that time the size of the glasses have changed about 3 times.

Do you live in an area where prices are higher? Did you shop around before you went or are you satisfied with your service you got. If you are satisfied I am happy for you. It is not fun when you can't see. The world is a better place when you can see where you are going. I know that for a fact with my cataracts but they are corrected now and wow what I missed in the last three years.

Yep, an Opthamalogist is the only way to go for glasses and contacts.

I was going to Lenscrafters, but no more

Stop-I have to wear toric lenses and I have an astigmatism also, my contacts cost $375. (and that doesn't include the drs eye exam)

my eye doctor charged more last year but this year he has to drop the price due to competition.
Funny,my doc is just a therapeutic optometrist,optometric glaucoma specialist orthokeratology,delta ortho-k lens innovator,what ever ???????
I shopped around for a pair of toric lenses and the last quote was 235 with no exam.
