All the hoopla over my Redneck thread poses a serious question. I wasn't being funny when I accused the detractors of not having a real clue about rednecks. I think I said it nicer than that, but you know what I mean.
So, it's time to put it to the test. If any of you who were offended by the Redneck thread can answer even half of these questions - without doing research on the side... I'll kiss my own darned grits.

Score three points per correct answer. You're given one point to start.

1) How many Vienna Sausages are in a can?
Seven, I think (six around the edges, one in the middle), gittin' too old to recollect much;
2) What was the number and color of Richard Petty's cars?
Don't recall, gotta be loyal to Bill Elliott, home boy, ya know;
3) Bill Dance is good at what?
Fishin' and bein' clumsy;
4) What university does Bill Dance root for?
Got no idea, but I'd guess Bama or Auburn;
5) Where did Herschel Walker play (college)
football?
University of Georgia;
6) After boiling peanuts for an hour you have what?
Boiled peanuts, or a big mess that you eat by the handfuls;
7) In cubic inches, how big is the smallest 1966 GM small-block V8?
Don't know, not a car person;
8) A Cajun is likely to speak what furrin' language?
French of sorts, always liked the sound of their voice and their language;
9) What is a chigger?
A little-bitty red bug that gets under your skin when you go out in the woods and itches like crazy - (or a favorite baby or toddler that ya really like).
10) What is scrapple?
Hawg stuff, I think - don't rightly recall;
11) Where is "The Redneck Riviera"?
Alabama (with draft beer and wienies 'stead of steak and martinis);
12) What's that fuzzy stuff hanging off the oak trees?
Spanish Moss - or a toupe if you're desperate, but I understand it itches sumin' awful;
13) What follows logically? Johnson, Mercury,________.
Got no idea, their folks musta not lived 'round here;
14) What's the common name for a bowfin?
Don't know, don't fish, hunt or chew;
15) If you mated a heifer and a steer, what would you get?
If they liked each other, a happy heifer and steer - if not, I wouldn't be standin' around to see how they felt later. Steers can be ornery;
16) Who sang "Your Cheatin' Heart"?
Too easy, Hank Williams Sr., of course;
17) What are grits made out of?
Corn - but don't tell nobody, we rednecks gotta have some State secrets;
18) Who was nicknamed "The Bear"
Ya mean Bear Bryant over in Alabama or some other "Bear";
19) Why is the Blue Ridge blue?
Air, kinda
20) What did The Baldwin Sisters make?
Moonshine - maybe whoopee, I dunno;
21) Who was Andy Taylor's love interest?
Mostly Helen Crump - trick question, he had that rich gal for a little while and Ellie from the drugstore too;
22) What are the radio station call letters that carries "The Grand Ol' Opry"?
Sumin' with uh M, but don't recollect entirely, got a few leaks in this ol' brain;
23) Where would you find Vidalia County?
Well, Vidalia, Georgia is where the Vidalia onions are grown but that ain't Vidalia County;
24) What sport requires 3 legs and a rope?
Tyin' a calf - always made me mad, the calves wuz just standing around mindin' their own business when some show-off comes along and ties them up in a few seconds - always made me wonder how good those cowboys were when romancin' a woman;
25) What instrument did Bill Monroe play? (typically)?
Mandolin (can't spell that);
26) How many strings on a banjo? (two possible answers?
Four or six I believe, don't recall, never played (a banjo that is):
27) When you argue with a fool, what is he doing?
If you don't know, I ain't gonna tell ya;
28) What is a scuppernong?
Type of wild grape;
29) Do you want the goats to get into the kudzu?
Yep, long as they eat the stuff up and get rid of it, I don't care what gets into the kudzu;
30) Why do you want to eat "high on the hog"?
Fancy eatin' - fancy fixins;
31) What color is a John Deere?
Another trick question - farm equipment is green, construction is yellow. Knew about the farm equipment, but didn't know about construction. Learned that on this here board - thanks to whoever posted that;
32) What do you call the offspring of a mule?
Well, I don't wanna be indelicate, but I believe it's a jack...
33) What will you harvest when you plant "shade"?
That meanin' has changed in my parts, some people think it's the stuff the helicopters keep searchin' for - others think it's trees that shade the house in the summer and some think it's taters 'n stuff, like in nightshade.
What's your answer?
Much obliged mybiddness, enjoyed myself.
Edited to add - Calamity, I believe you're right about the Viennies, I think there's two in the middle.
posted on September 9, 2000 11:38:44 PM newCalamity I was trying to figure out how to delicately scold you for not knowing the color of a John Deere - was going to give you a second chance - when Jada gave the right answer.
So far, Jada has the most correct answers.
Can't post them yet - til I see if anyone else wants to take the test.
Here's one for both of you to re-think though - cause ya gotta know it:
If you mated a heifer and a steer, what would you get?
posted on September 9, 2000 11:41:39 PM new
Nope Jada - you were right on that one - there are seven viennas - think I'll go pop open a can and count em just to be sure.

Mybid,
I didn't cheat. I didn't cheat. We have a zillion JD's sitting around here.
I'm trying to figure out the heifer/steer combination. It just ain't possible though steers do try. A heifer is a maiden and a steer is cut (if you are a redneck, you know what that means). Am I thinking too hard?
posted on September 9, 2000 11:59:50 PM new
Now, Now Calamity - you can't laugh - at least Bunnicula knows that a steer and mule are sterile!
Do y'all want me to just post the answers and be done with it - or just the ones that are right so far? Or should we wait for the real redneck experts to give their answers?
posted on September 10, 2000 12:08:04 AM new
No Mybid. Lets wait. this is too much fun
I done got tricked on the mule question. I was thinking Jack. Okay, now I'm trying to remember. Do you get a hinny when you breed a Jack and horse mare or when you breed horse stud to a jenny? My burning question of the night.

Um, hmph, err...I thought hominy was a particular *type* of corn as all I have ever seen has such *large* white kernels.
See--told you I don't qualify as a Redneck
I also acknowledge being wrong on the "Your Cheatin' Heart" question. For some reason when I read the title another song altogether came to mind first. But for *me*, the correct answer is Leon Redbone I like his version best.
posted on September 10, 2000 12:13:52 AM newBunnicula You did great - nothin to be ashamed of at'all. Rednecks are a work of art to be studied and admired, ain't they?
Got a mean old grouchy husband yelling cause he can't sleep for all my keyboard peckin.
Guess since he's sick I'll cut him some slack and call it a night. Thanks y'all for taking the test.

Jada,
Would those be the black helicopters?
Bunnicula,
You did good. At least you tried it. If my husband hadn't played Hank Williams tapes when we were dating I wouldn't have known that one. He never sings but when he was tipsy he would break out Your Cheating Heart.
It was BAD.
Calamity
Oh, hominy is corn with the hulls boiled or steamed off. I think. I'm just discombobled after I mised that mule question.
posted on September 10, 2000 12:40:20 AM newCalamity49: That is a question I get frequently at the library! A Mule is the result of crossing a mare and a male donkey (jack). A Hinny results from crossing a male horse and a female donkey or ass(jenny).
posted on September 10, 2000 12:43:13 AM new
Calamity - Naw, just regular ol' helicopters, the rural areas I'm familiar with can't afford the black ones, and some counties just have to drive around with one person holding one of those little propeller wind thingys out the window while the other makes helicopter noises.

I wanted to take a minute to see who had the most correct answers but won't be able to - my husband took a turn for the worse last night and isn't doing well. He's scheduled for gall bladder surgery Tuesday a.m. - I don't understand why they're waiting that long. Nevertheless, I'll be busy tending to him for the next while and can't stay online.
Thanks for all who took the "challenge" - I enjoyed it.
Your thoughts and prayers for my husband would be appreciated.

Mybid,
You do have my thoughts and prayers. I hope they take him early. Please keep us posted.
Thanks Bunnucula, see you are a redneck. Not many people have heard of a hinny. You picked it right up. Now if I can just remember it again for future reference.
Jada and Hellcat, congratulations, I think you all are the CHAMPS!

As for the venerable hinny, I only know because I get the mule question a lot at the library. Librarians tend to pick up a plethora of facts over the years.

Hi all;
Mybiddness - Of course I will keep your hubby in my prayers. My Mom had to have gall bladder surgery a few years back and came through with flying colors. They began the surgery as laser surgery but had to do it the old-fashioned way. She was in extremely bad pain before the surgery, but she did wonderfully well afterwards and I'm sure your hubby will as well.
They waited on hers too for some reason, I took her to the hospital on Saturday and they didn't operate until Tuesday.
Calamity - Thanks, but I didn't know a lot of them, just comes from bein' raised in the country.
