Meet the Press will never be the same. He was a great journalist and very highly respected by both his colleagues and politicians on both sides of the aisle. Very sad day.....

Such a dear, honest man! I can't think who can replace him on Meet the Press.

Sad, unexpected loss of a sterling newsman/moderator. So very few of his ilk left.
Edited to add, also a best-selling author of a memoir and tribute to his father, Big Russ and Me (I haven't read it yet, but thoroughly enjoyed interviews when he discussed the book), which I'm sure contributed to his being named as several "Father of the Year" honors. How appropriate that he leaves on Father's Day weekend.

I always "had breakfast" with Tim Russert...Sundays will not be the same without his insightful and penetrating questions and always-respectful demeanor. I have read his book...it's excellent and I highly recommend it. I was also a big fan of Russert's weekly show where he generally interviewed current authors...The shows with Doris Kerns Goodwin were always exceptional...Our country is diminished with his loss.

The Republican party has lost an outstanding spokesman for their candidates and policy. But whatever your political affiliation his unexpected death is tragic for a man so young;
I understand that during the same several days that he was planning to celebrate the graduation of his son he also had to make arrangements to place his beloved father in a nursing home.

Great man. I respected his style and unbiased delivery.
Although he was a stouch Democrat, when he sat at the table he covered both sides without malice.
Wish they all did .... stick to the truth and the facts .
Tim was a very good person.

Helen: Are you saying Tim R. was a Republican? Or just that he was fair to both sides?

GOSH .... are folks REALLY that ignorant? True it is rare that a person does their job in a non-bias professional manner.
LOL, mainstream news is lop-sided, cable news is other-sided.
It was so refreshing to be able to have the facts laid on the table ....and let the cards fall as they may!
Have a great day

Tim had a great manner of asking the questions everybody else wanted to without being caustic. He did this to both Republicans and Democrats. His questions were fair, well-thought out and few faulted him for it. Some folks will believe him biased because he held their favorite politician's feet to the fire, as he did every politician. Forget them. We need someone else to carry on the tradition with the same elegance Tim had.
"Another time, another place." You chose to post a barbed comment at this time. Perhaps you can explain yourself.

In every picture with his father I could see so much love in Tim Russert's face & glowing smile. He was so proud of his Dad. I was very touched by that.

Russert could ask tough questions...no doubt about that. But he deliberately failed to zero in on the lies from Cheney/Bush etc. that he knew were being used to justify the Iraq war. That's one reason that I can't think of him as a great investigative journalist. These articles cover his bias toward Republican policy. A good investigative journalist would not be so revered by people such as Bush, Cheney and even Rush Limbaugh.

Helen: Thanks for posting those articles. I honestly felt, from the Russert shows I'd watched, that he was even-handed. I've changed my mind.
I disliked his questioning of Al Gore on the "when life begins" question. Etc.

He certainly had the ability to be "even-handed" but chose not to. Most journalists that we see on TV are just entertainers with a political agenda directed by the corporate owned media....a bunch of lap dogs.
It's sad when you have to read foreign papers to find out what's really happening in America.
