Hi, all. I had back surgery (lumbar) two weeks ago, got home a few days ago, and am doing better than I have been for a year or two. Not pain free, yet, but close. I missed the round table and EO.Very glad to be back in our quiet mountains after the bustle of Beverly Hills (sounds ritzy, doesn't it, but the back surgeon is world renowned and highly recommended by friends and family).

Comparing Beverly Hills with the Palm Springs area, I hugely prefer Beverly Hills! Both areas have lots of people with pots of money, but B. Hills is Old California in many ways, with wonderful early homes well taken care of; the desert is all glitz and glamour and new buildings.

So glad that you are back home in your mountains but most important is that it appears that the surgery is a SUCCESS!

It is interesting how you compare the two places. I have been to Beverley Hills but not to Palm Springs. I just loved the hustle and bustle of Beverley Hills but I like that in most Cities.
We visited friends in Lake Havasu last November and that was way too hot for me and the winds were blowing so hard it was like being in a gravel pit. As you can tell, I am not excited by desert locations but had thought of a trip to Palm Springs to try one more time.

We do pay visits to Las Vegas but I don't even count that as desert! I think I am an ocean girl and should maybe stay that way just as I know that many many people love the desert.

My Mum used to have a saying that 'That's why there are so many flavours of ice cream...everyone likes something different".

Hey Adele - was wondering why we hadn't heard much from you on EO and RT. Hope you are painless soon. Sounds like you had the best MD too.

I have had 2 epidurals in the past 2 months for my back. The first one worked great and had another today.

Neil: I had two epidurals (tried everything before opting for surgery); the first one lasted about 2 weeks. The second one lasted perhaps an hour. I'm told that sometimes they're very effective (and I hope that's the case for you), and sometimes not.

Otteropp: I'm an ocean girl too, but we're here in our beloved mountains, which for me is close to perfect.

Every time we have to drive down to Palm Springs area, I do not enjoy it much. As an environmentalist, I have huge problems with their hundreds of golf courses and with the green lawns that are frequently watered in the middle of a summer day(!!). I know they tap into artesian waters, but it's really offensive to see people struggling to grow grass, as in England, in the hot hot desert. The people, also, for the most part, are very showy with their stuff--jewelry, expensive cars, deep tans, etc. Beverly Hills has many lovely old homes built before 1930s and just somehow isn't as pretentious as the desert area. It may be old money vs. nouveau riche. Just my personal feelings, of course.

I have had 4 in the last 4 years. They work great for me. I'll be out there in July to see my grandson. He is 3 months old now. Can't wait

Hope your surgery results are positive roadsmith. I just had a lumbar MRI two weeks ago. Apparently my back is a series of leaky water ballons supported by sawdust. I don't have a lot of pain. It's only intermittent. I just wanted to know what causes the pins and needles in my feet. Seeing the neurologist in a couple of weeks. Nobody's cuttin' on me. Too much to do around here to lay up in bed for god knows how long.

"Nobody's cuttin' on me. Too much to do around here to lay up in bed for god knows how long."

Good decision, Profe! Recently, a friend of mine nearly died after back surgery. He survived to endure, every day, more pain than he had before the surgery.

You're very lucky, Roadsmith.

Well, so far so good, I say. The surgery was a chance I was willing to take, given the world reputation of the surgeon/researcher. The pain before surgery had me immobilized. Now I'm recuperating and getting my strength back.

I've had quite a few surgeries in my long life and have had success with every one of them. Lucky so far, eh?

Exceedingly lucky, Roadsmith!

I believe that in too many cases, the risks involved in invasive medical procedures or tests outweigh the benefits....even when provided by a "world renowned" doctor like yours.

If I were immobilized I'm sure I'd opt for surgery too.I don't sit still very well... Not close to that yet though. Unfortunately now SWMBO has justification for giving me hell every time I break a horse, and what's worse she's always telling my son to stay away from the green horses or "you'll end up just like your papa".

Just ask SWMBO how to break your wild and vicious horses! You can take the baddest and most contrary horse or husband and put either animal on it's best behavior gently, if you know what you are doing. SWMBO knows.
