I know this may sound a bit odd, but I am wondering if anyone here as any info on Conneticutt. I live in Florida and have had an opportunity to move there. I know it gets pretty cold, but I was wondering about housing mainly, what rents are like etc. If anyone has any info I would appreciate it. Thanks!

DavidX:

Connecticut is spelled with only 2 T's - I know that.

Try About.com and do a search for "Connecticut" and it will give you several links to information about the state.

I just drove through there and I saw that gasoline was $1.65 to $1.75 a gallon. YIKES! Good thing I had enough in my tank to keep on driving right out of there!

Really, I believe you will find it much more expensive than Florida, particularly in housing costs.

Good luck.

I lived in the New Haven area. Very high rent (higher than FL.), cold, gas and food are pricier, oh, did I say cold.

I live in Connecticut also, in Fairfield County. That translates into EXPENSIVE. Everything is more expensive there than it is anywhere in the county - gas, food, housing. You name it, it costs a fortune here. The upside is, it's quite beautiful most times of the year. It does have some temp extremes from hot and humid in the summer to icicles hanging off our nose in the winter but that's what sweaters and fireplaces are for. Right now the fall colors are incredible and the air is just cool enough that we lit a fire last night and I pulled the sweaters down. My hubby grew up on South Florida and loves it here - no Palmetto bugs!!! I grew up in New England and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

Were I am is highly populated with great restaurants, shopping, and cultural events. New York City is less than an hour by car or by train and Boston is about a three hour drive away. There are some pretty rural areas with farms and woods and animals just a hop, skip and a jump from here. We drove out to go apple picking in the country Saturday and then hit the mall on the way home for some major shopping.

It's a big adjustment from the South but, depending on your lifestyle and what your used to, this can be a great place to hang your hat. I do have to say that the traffic is atrocious!!!
