There is a short list of things that make me nostalgic for my youth, all of which are music related.

I had very few toys, as a child or a teen, but music was a constant in my life. My earliest memories involve music.

My list includes:

Elgar's Pomp & Circumstance
Johnny Mathis
The Platters
Roy Orbison
The Everly Brothers

Hearing Pomp & Circumstance yesterday led to this question for you:

When you were a kid, who did you want to be? And, why?

I wanted to be Rita Hayworth. When I saw her on the movie screen, I saw perfection: beautiful, elegant, talented and sexy.

Unfortunately, her husbands also saw what I saw and expected all of this from a mere mortal.

To this day, I make a point to watch her movies when a station runs one.

Hey Zazzie (hiya, long time no see), heh, I was Haley Mills when I was a kid. I really wanted to be Natalie Wood though. Actually I didn't have any sisters and wanted Haley as my twin (so we could get into mischief together) and for Natalie to be my big sister who told me all about "big girl" stuff...

Hey there too Maui (and all) - you know I also would've liked to have been Paula Prentis (that is when I wasn't Yvette Mimeaux or else Tuesday Weld or Sissy Spacek, except Sissy wasn't around when I was little)...

Oh also Maui, sorry I missed your birthday. I hope it was a good one. Look for an email from me (a present to you that you asked me for a long time ago)...sometime in the next few weeks. I'm so behind on everything!

Femme - Rita Hayworth was wonderful!

You know, when I decided I wanted Natalie Wood as a sister was when I saw her in Gypsy Rose Lee. I liked the dancers in the old movies...

I've racked my poor little brain until it bleeds and can't remember anyone I really wanted to be. How odd!!
I do remember wanting to marry a few guys.
Does that count?
I had a killer crush on Michael Renee (SP)
the alien from "The Day The Earth Stood Still" when I was three.
Strangly enough the guy I am married to now bears a good resemblance to him. Just realized that about a year or two ago.

I still am a kid...

Yesterday I held my breath until I turned blue so could get what I wanted...

When I DO grown up I want to be either A Muppet or an Astronaut. Maybe I could be a Muppet Astronaut...

I really wanted to be "Julie" from the Mod Squad fame (the original show - NOT the 90's movie) OR Bridget from "Here Comes the Brides".....

Wink Martindale was a class act!

kiheicat....Bobby Sherman....YES!..YES!....YES!!!!......He did a teen idol's tour a couple of summers ago in my neck o' the woods....First off, he's just as "hunky" as he was "in the olden days" (even better if you can imagine that!)..But best of all, he was THE nicest, kindest, humble soul!....He sang all the old favorites, signed autographs & took pix with almost everyone!...It was just like bein' 13yrs old all over agin'!!!.....

Dagnabit, now I have that Bobby Sherman 'Seattle' song stuck in my head...

Like a beautiful child
Growing up, free and wild,
Full of hopes and full of fears,
Full of laughter, full of tears,
Full of dreams to last the years
In Seattle............

I had a major crush on Ringo...then whatisface, the drummer, on the Monkee's. Then back to Ringo..then George for awhile...then back to the Monkees drummer again...then back to Ringo...settled on John for a bit, then back to Ringo ago. Kept going to Ringo...so guess I stayed with him until I discovered a little known actor who played in Remington Steele and then went on to become the new James Bond
