We like death and horror don't we?

How good it feels to feel bad, to feel sorry.

How satisfying to reach into this rarely used well of purity deep down inside us.

Let's stand at attention as the feelings arise and overwhelm us.

A religious experience almost isn't it?

Let's conjure up now the great eternal themes which make sense of it all.

Let's not even have the decency of keeping it all quiet.

No. Let's masquerade unfortunate fate into solemn sacrifice.

Yes, let us call victims heroes.

We will feel better.

Let us pretend that refueling was heroism.

Let us all agree that death is only acceptable if?


What nonsense.


We build advanced technological vessels and have the most backwards philosophy.

Not being sarcastic. Just trying to figure out what you're trying to say, beyond you don't think that those killed on the USS Cole sacrificed their lives in service to their country.
