Interesting story from AP

"After all the bad things Al Gore has been saying about the state of George W. Bush's Texas, it seems conditions there are on the mend after all.

Says who? The Clinton-Gore administration.

The White House has a Web section listing "Clinton-Gore administration accomplishments" state by state. Some of the headlines for Texas sound like a campaign ad that could be run by Gov. Bush, the Republican presidential candidate, and not at all like the Texas that Gore is describing in his Democratic campaign.

The White House says of the state:

-"More high-quality teachers with smaller classes for Texas' schools."
-"Crime falls 15 percent in Texas."
-"496,746 fewer people on welfare."
-"Health care for nearly 50,900 uninsured Texas children."
-"More toddlers are being immunized."
-"Child support collections up 178 percent."
-"2,005,800 new jobs."
-"Homeownership has increased in Texas."
-"11 toxic waste sites cleaned up."

Algore says pretty much whatever will sound good at the moment. How many "exaggerations" (lies) will he have to tell before voters catch on? Hopefully they catch on before election day.

As a Texas resident I have been very happy with the Bush leadership. I'm not as involved with the schools this year as I have been in the past few years but it's been impressive to watch the changes being made in our schools. I know that the high accountability demands of his administration have caught some flak from others but it's been very effective here locally. This is especially true at the elementary level. Before Bush came along a friend of mine who was a kindergarten teacher had the added task of teaching her students (mostly hispanic) to speak english before she could even begin to teach them the ABC's. Under the Bush administration she has been relieved of that responsibility and by the time the kids get to her classroom they have a good grasp of the language so that they can concentrate on learning. I think one of the reasons that I'm impressed with him is that he has a way of getting to the root of the problem quickly. He seems to understand the importance of feedback and open communications - or, at least someone in his administration does.

Not paranoid anywhere else but here!

mybiddness...that's because he was a successful businessman before entering politics. When you run a large profit-marking corporation, you have a much better grasp on identifying problems and coming up with solutions. I currently work for a Municipal Government and you can tell in a heartbeat who used to work in the private sector and who have been government employees since graduating high school or college.

I also found it funny that Gore was bashing Texas while the White House Website had the above information plainly accessible to everyone. Does he think he can hide all these links like he does his e-mail??

Meya,

You could insert the name of just about anyone who has run for a political office in your paragraph.

No, this Bush guy is something special. He's a regular Joe, Washington outsider! He's the kind of guy you want to go hunting with!

George W. isn't the brightest bulb in the fixture to say the least, ala Ronald Reagan. But... Both of these guys are/were effective leaders. Why? Because they acknowledge their shortcomings and surround themselves with the very best people in the key positions.

W and Reagan have both been critized for not paying attention to details. But an effective leader doesn't pay attention to details. An effective leader plots a strategy (the big picture) and lets his well-chosen subordinates work out the details. Then he reviews the details and approves or disapproves them. Reagan excelled at this and so does W.

Al Gore is just the opposite. He wants to have his hand in everything and then take the credit for it, no matter how small his contribution was. If this guy is elected, his cabinet will be a joke because he is a control freak.

2 failed businesses = Sucessful businessman?
I'm from deep South Texas, and things haven't improved there. Fix the colonias and maybe I'll be impressed.

Edited to add: The day I vote for a draft dodgin' druggie is the day I vote Republican! Hey, what's wrong with that sentence?

If we define successful on two businesses, Abraham Lincoln would never have been elected.

Abe's daddy wasn't a Texas oil millionaire.

It's very hard to fail in Texas business when you are connected the way George W. is.
But, since the party I am registered with decided to run a b**b, I might have to vote Dem, arrggghhh, I can't say it!
