I was trying to use a friend's digital camera to upload some photos at work only to discover that the computer doesn't recognize it's own USB ports (the camera and cable work fine on other computers). I went into the control panel and the device manager only to discover that the USB ports are not listed.
How do I get the computer to recognize the USB ports? Is there anyway to load the USB drivers for this WITHOUT having to reload Windows 98 completely?

USB must be enabled in the BIOS of the computer before it will work correctly.
When the computer is booting up, watch the screen, and you'll see directions for getting into the Setup, perhaps pressing F2 or ESC depending on the system.
Look through the settings for the USB disable/enable and enable it.
If you are totally unfamiliar with a BIOS, you might want to find someone who knows their way around in there before proceeding.
