Gone With the Wind
It's a Wonderful Life
October Sky
Remember the Titans
All of Me
Real Genius
The Kid
And I'm sure there are a few more that will come to mind!

She'll be 6 quite soon here. I've been compiling some DVD's for her to give her all at once for her birthday, mostly Disney stuff.
I LOVE Gone With The Wind but I'm going to have to wait and buy that in a store. All the ones I find on eBay I'm hesitant to buy because they are all foreign subtitled ones and I dont want that.
The Kid is new isn't it? With Bruce Willis?

libby...if she's only 6, then forget "Real Genius" and "All of Me". Those are a bit too much for that age group.
Yes, The Kid was the Bruce Willis movie from last year. Our whole family liked that one.

The boyfriend got a DVD player for Christmas (am I a great girlfriend, or what?). So, we've been slowly stocking up on DVD's.
We go for the ones that have the most/best 'extras'. I really recommend Dinosaur from Disney. The extras are really cool! There are even two games that you can play using the DVD remote!

Six is a fun age. I can tell you what I watch with my grand daughters.
Babe-my favorite
Fly Away Home
The Secret Garden
The Borrowers
Dances with Wolves
My Dog Skip
I guess you can tell from this we like animal movies. My own movies are anything really scary, not a good birthday present for a six year old.

cmbtboots - you've got quite the mix there You are like me! I've got a little of this and a little of that and little more of that in my collection thus far Examples ~
American Pie
Center Stage
Annie
Carrie and Carrie 2
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
The Cutting Edge
The Best Of Friends
Heathers
Poltergeist

I like a little bit of a lot of stuff. Nothing horror like "Chucky" or "Friday the 13th" but still I'm a HUGE fan of "FRIENDS" so I have made a point of working into a collection of all the movies that all of the cast members have starred in. Just one of my "weird" wants for my collection

Life is Beautiful If you haven't seen it, you must. I don't like subtitles. But the movie was so good they didn't bother me.
It's A Wonderful Life My all time favorite.
Silence of the Lambs Was great! I hope Hannibal is as good.

Anything with Kathrine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. They made 9 movies together and there is only 1 stinker in the bunch. I've got all 9 finally, even the stinker. (Keeper of the Flame)
To Kill a Mockingbird (my biggest "want" is an autographed copy of the book)
The Spitfire Grill (if you haven't seen it, you've missed something)
Gone With the Wind
Galaxy Quest
Fargo (not for kids!)
Charade
Sense and Sensibility
Slingblade
Star Trek The Voyage Home "They are not the hell your whales"
The Princess Bride
Had to Add, When Harry Met Sally!

I have two daughters, 7 & 12, and our favorite movies (in no particular order) are:
1 - Emma
2 - Little Women (the one with Winona Ryder & the one with Kate Hepburn)
3 - The Sound of Music
4 - My Fair Lady
5 - Arsenic & Old Lace (one of the funniest movies ever made!)
6 - Sense & Sensability
7 - Ever After
8 - Willow
My younger daughter also really likes the old Shirley Temple movies. My husband of course prefers movies that feature lots of explosions and/or car chases.
Not Tootsiepop anywhere else!

One of my favorite movies is Less Than Zero with Robert Downey. It's definately not a kid's movie, but his acting was unbelieveable in it.....has anyone else seen it???
I think every person/child should watch The Elephant Man. It's the kind of movie that stays with you forever.

Just finished watching American Beauty. After reading all these posts I starting jonesing for the good old days when I would rent 6-7 videos and grab a bag of doritos and a bottle of champagne and watch movie after movie.
So like any good parent, I woke my son up, got him dressed, raided the grocery money jar and dragged him to a Hollywood video store at 10:00 pm, then hit the store for doritos and Hawaiian punch (how'd ya like a nice Hawaiian Punch?? Remember this anyone??) My 4 year old just hates drinking champange.
I don't know if they do this everywhere, but Hollywood video offers a selection of free kid's videos, exactly in my price range. Pretty decent selection, a handful of Disney, Arthur, Blue's Clues etc...
A few people on a film website raved about a film called Jesus' Son, so I got that one and another one I have been dying to see; Live Flesh, an Almodovar film. So I sat through Beauty and the Beast (Disney, although I would like to see the other version, as long as it is not animated, I am SO over Disney). We cuddled under the big quilt and ate cookie dough, doritos and punch, I know, how gross. It is now 2:00 am and my son just fell asleep on the living room floor. BTW, did you know I am up for mother of the year? I am expecting the award any day now, really, I am.
I am so thankful to have found this thread because the past few years I sort of forgot what I liked to do because I was so caught up in the everyday things. I forgot what a fantastic escape movies are!
So, keep listing your favorites!! I am adding to my list of favorites.
Easy Rider
Gods Must Be Crazy ( the sequel was terrible though)
kraftdinner I loved Less Than Zero!! Great anti-drug movie!! AND Robert Downey Jr. certainly is no eye strain!! What a hottie! I could help him with his problems, if only he would call, I will fix him!! yeah, okay, did I say it was Hawaiian Punch I was drinking?
libbyparsons By the movies you list I bet I could estimate your age. Fast Times at Ridgemont High, wow. Good show! Remember Mr. Hand, the teacher? Duuude!! When did that movie come out, 1982?
Well, off to email my auction winners. night all!

Movie review: Jesus' Son. Don't bother, waste of good film.
Going to go get more movies later today. Any recommendations? One movie I am going to get for sure; Life is Beautiful. I love Italian men, umm, I mean movies.
Two more to list of favorites: Breakfast Club and 16 Candles. I also do a fair impression of that nerd from Breakfast Club. Remember the scene when they were all smoking pot?
Nerd: The beetch can't hold her smoke, that what it is.
Once again, this does not work as well in print. oh well.
