Is anyone here from Montana? I would like to plan a vacation there. What can you tell me about the climate and any tourist spots?

Well, I don't live there now, but I grew up there. The best weather is usually July or August time frame. If you plan on any camping, be sure to bring warm items, the nights are alway chilly.
There are tons of tourist areas. The western side of the state is prettiest. There is Glacier National Park in the northwest part of the state. Great fly fishing in the Yellowstone river around Livingston which is just a couple of hours north of Yellowstone National Park. There are some ghost towns in the southwestern part of the state. The Lewis & Clark caverns are fun too. There are wonderful places to camp. There are some great rodeo based festivals in some towns as well.
The eastern part of the state is more flat and gets very hot in the summer. It has the custer battlefield memorial, and medicine rocks park. There is some good fishing there as well. It is a huge state, so you may want to decide what it is you enjoy doing and chances are you could find it somewhere.
Its a great place to visit.

It's really hard to take you seriously with a name like "crankyoldhag".

Thanks for the info! I like ghost towns; that sounds cool. By the way, any good flea markets in Montana? Antique stores? Gotta do that, you know!!

Email me your address and I will have an information packet sent to you. If anyone else would like one please feel free to do the same. This will be sent to by state. Montana is not just a Summer place, but there is a lot to do here in the winter as well.
Email address is: [email protected]

The Custer battlefield is really interesting if you take the time to walk out and see it from the paths followed by the Indians and then the way Custer traveled. He had to be riding along picking his nose totally oblivious, without any outriders far enough out to see the danger in the terrain. He got really suckered. The Indians would have won even without firearms.
It was a masterfull light cavalry movement.
If he had had two riders out a half mile spread they would have been lost but could have fired a warning shot. That is assuming he would have had the brains to retreat at a prearranged signal. It would be really nice to ride the site instead of walk it. The town of Monroe to the South of us makes a big deal of him being their Favorite Son. I have never figured out why they were not embarrassed at how bad he got whipped.

But.... I am a cranky old hag! Well, maybe not so old I'm told, but sometimes quite cranky.

Montana does have lots to do in the winter, but its much too cold there for my taste, so I only go in the summer.

Sorry Muriel, but I don't know of any flea markets or antique places. I do randomly stop at garage sales along the way and have found some great treasures.
