Oh---don't remind me of 'The Sopranos'. In September one of the 'free' Canadian networks played the 1st Season---but the second season is only available on a Pay Network that can only be seen in Eastern Canada.

Grrrrrrrrrr.

are you sure? HBO is not a pay-per-view network. you pay for it monthly.

HBO isn't in Canada.

Maybe it's a Cable Network---all I know is that you can't get it where I live !!!

HBO is cable.

I don't have cable, so I've never seen the show. But for all you Sopranos fans, here's a site where you can generate your very own Sopranos-style mob nickname:

Oh, and call me Killer!

Although I have never seen the show (we don't have HBO) I've heard lots about it from friends & family. My boss rented the tapes last week and told me I just had to watch it. I understand some of my old stomping grounds are featured.

In Essex County, NJ, they are no longer letting them film any episodes there. Seems they want to disassociate the "Mafia" mentality from the area. Yeah, right.

Any reason why the XFL Jersey team is called the "Hitmen?"

OK...who watched the Nancy Marchand Computer generated scene last night??

What HECK was that all about!!! Looked like a bad Disney effect!!!!

The show was good, but that scene, and the "what happened" video rewind scene seemed to sink below the shows usual quality norm.

ubie- i agree about the computer-generated scene. it wasn't real good. the fast rewind scene was a little unnecessary as well. i think they set the table nicely, however, for the next episodes. the you-know-what is really going to hit the fan!!!!

I find the Sopranos to be highly insulting to people of Italian-American descent. Its glorification of the mob, of crime and murder, casts Italian-Americans in a poor light, and no doubt leads some to believe that all Italian-Americans have ties to organized crime. I also find that discussions such as the one ongoing in this thread further promote the negative image of Italian-Americans. It offends me, and I think this thread should be closed immediately.

Not to mention the fact that is is highly elitist. Many other groups have perfectly good Mafia ties, yet they are never mentioned.

"zazzie - you could get it on satellite."

Only through a grey market dish. The RCMP (our version of the FBI) has no sense of ha ha when they find on of these. It simply proves that they are pawns of the big National networks and cable companies who can't handle the competition. We can't get Showtime legally either. This is why I get my HBO/Showtime "fix" from my US tape trader friends.

As to anyone who has a problem with "The Sopranos" ...

- I thought this kind of nonsense ended when the Italian community got all agitated with DesiLu when the original "The Untouchables" aired. Either that, or the protestors found the on/off/channel changer switch on their teevee sets and realized they had a choice

and

- it's a television show for crying out loud

They even used the word "farted" on "The Simpsons" the other night. Shame on them

Now, how about NBC saying they will never re-air the Law & Order ep "Sunday In the Park With Jorge" due to an uprising from the Filipino community ... !!!

Um, RB, it was the Puerto Rican community, not the Filipinos.

And where the heck were you yesterday when stusi, the originator of this thread, managed to get my thread locked as "anti-Semitic" because I made a simple reference to the story of Moses and the burning bush?

"Um, RB, it was the Puerto Rican community, not the Filipinos."

Whatever You can see how much of an effect this little protest had on me ... about the same effect it would have on me if I was driving my aircraft carrier and some Green Peace terrorist decided to park his raft in front of me to protest something.

"And where the heck were you yesterday .."

I don't normally visit this thread, When I saw your whinging in the Moderator's Forum, I came over here to see what all the brouhaha was about. Turns out it was a false alarm --- much ado abut nothing.

Long live The Sopranos, and John Gotti, and even Sammy Gravano

I'm A FAN...
Didn't really see it the first year, fell in love with it the second year, and have now seeen all episodes, heck I have been known to watch them two times in a week.
Love that opening music in the begining, so much so I bought the CD, and now have to steal it back from hubby.
Our episodes are on about a week later or so in Australia, and boy it's hard to not tell, to my one e mail friend on what's going to happen...
It's just plain good.
I do agree with showing mama, it was a bit far fetched to me..
Now SIS and her wanting to have everybody say something about mama, oh that was a hoot...She's something else.
It's fun entertainment, and that's what it should be....I was married to an Italian, and don't feel that it insults one darn bit, they do have a good sense of humor too folks.

Can someone tell me how they found out Pussy was working with the FBI? I missed the first half hour......

I think they did a pretty good job with Nancy Marchand's animation considering she died in real life.......what a drag, she was a great actress.......

Also for Canadians.....you can get The Sopranos on The Movie Network through Star Choice.

Spaz, let me ask you a question...
Does the movie Boys in the Hood make you think that all African Americans are gang bangers? How about Sex in the City, does that make you think that all single women are sluts? What about the Brady Bunch, do all families with step children have astro-turf lawns?

Your comments about the Sopranos being anti-Italian are rediculous. It's simply a story about ONE Italian family.
