I just checked my GTE account for the first time in a couple of weeks. I quit using that account because of all the junk email I was receiving (three times as much spam as legit email).
This is unbelievable to me. It took almost an hour to down load all of my email. I'm sure the box must have been full. There was around 700 spam email messages mixed in with a few that I was interested in.
I am now starting to receive spam in my Juno email account. I'm sure it will just be a matter of time before it is also a spammer's wasteland.
This is ridiculous!

We use AOL and I might get one or two a day and that is it. Why would that be - do they block certain addresses?

AOL does have spam blocks, but spam delivery can vary widely anyway.
One of my AOL addresses usually has around 70 spam messages sitting in it. I never use that one anymore. My other AOL addresses might get spam once a week at most.
I think the reason my other account gets spammed is because when I first had it I used it on news groups and in chat rooms, and it was harvested there. Now it's on lists and gets continually spammed.

My GTE address used to be my registered email address on Ebay. I also used it on my own web site. I don't use newsgroups or chat rooms. If it's out there the spammers will find it.
We get messages like get rich quick schemes, visit my porno site, enhance your sex life, fix your credit, except credit cards over the internet, ect, ect.....
I've heard that the AOL spam filter blocks a lot of legit messages from getting through, so that's not a good thing either.
There needs to be some kind of strictly enforced laws against this garbage.

If its out of control, then blame the people you voted into congress this last year.
Last spring, around March 2000, the Republicans sidded with the American Markerter's Association in a pro-consumer bill making its way through congress. The Republicans blantantly - and PROUDLY - stated that they back up the American Marketer's Assoc. 100%. This lobby makes sure that any pro-consumer protection measure that comes beofre congress is defeated.
Hate that SPAM that says one thing on the front, but turns out to be a porn offer when you open it up? That DECEPTIVE PRACTICES law against regular junk mail was being extended to SPAM -- and >>WHEW!!<<, your Republican Buddies caught it and defeated it just in time!
So instead of complaining here, STOP VOTING REPUBLICAN! Hell, forward them all of YOUR SPAM! At this point, it's THEIR FAULT anyway!

I have four different e-mail accounts, each for a specific purpose and target audience.
Keep your eBay address strictly for eBay business. Despite claims to the contrary, they DO sell the information. I have one account specifically set aside for them and sure enough, it generates by far the most spam.
My business e-mail averages about one spam a week. Of my two personal Hotmail accounts, one receives tons of spam, and one doesn't receive any despite settings being the same. The only difference was that I used one for a newsgroup.

90% of the spam I receive *comes* from hotmail accounts. They are ads in Korean (or perhaps Japanese)for electronics, cars, Hello Kitty--you name it. I am sick of them. I thought I'd taken care of it by setting the rules for mail to exclude things originating from "@hotmail.com" For almost a week I got nothing--but now they've started up again
