Any other movies buffs out there? Who do you predict will win the big prizes at the Oscars Sunday night? My guesses:
Best Picture: I'd love to see "Chocolat" win, but it will probably be "Gladiator"
Director: Ang Lee
Best Actor: Russell Crowe
Best Actress: Julia Roberts
Best Supporting Actor: Benicio Del Toro
Best Supporting Actress: As much as I dislike her, probably Kate Hudson will win...but would like to see Judi Dench take it.

I predict alot of women/girls with knobs of shoulder blades, chest bones, stick arms and hip bone bulges poking out of scanitly clad bodies, blowing kisses with mouths lined in black liner so their lips look fuller to us worshipping their beauty. Spikey hair, fluttering eyelashes and noses so high in the air if it rained, they would drown. I also envision men with those same women/girls draped on their arms, thinking they are honoring us, the peons, with their presence and granting us peasants (little people) permission to view their God Given studliness. Not.

Point(s) taken.
Certainly not any different that the blown-out of proportion event that is the NCAA Final Four tournament that we should all be absolutely enthralled with.

Julia Roberts was okay in Erin Brokovitch but certainly no Oscar performance. Can't figure out a reason why (other than politics) that she's considered the favorite.

Hepburn,
It's the peasants, peons, little people who have given the stars ample reason to believe in that delusion.

If people didnt fall all over themselves groveling at "stars" feet, they wouldnt have anyone to preen for, would they? I do like watching a brilliant actor/actress and have my favorites. They are to be commended for doing a great job at their craft. But they ARE just people.
I also enjoy seeing someone not so stuck on themselves, like Kathy Bates. Excellent actress. Wont catch her drowning if it rained

I was just sorry that "Sunshine" didn't receive any Oscar recognition...I thought it was a wonderful movie and acting was outstanding...Maybe it was just released too early? Any other "Sunshine" fans out there?

"Sunshine" only had a very limited release in the US last June. I doubt many Academy members had the chance to see it, much less nominate it.
I wasnted to see it, but I live in an area that rarely shows foreign films--an then only if they have become *extremely* popular. That goes for many non-action/adventure/comedy films as well. Heck, "Schindler's List" wasn't run in my area until it had been out for months & gotten popular--I had to drive over to Pasadena to see it
