I use Alley Cat. My kitty has a somewhat disgusting tendency to throw up any food that is too rich (Or too something, I don't know what, but most of the major brands cause this). Alley Cat offers two advantages: She doesn't throw it up as much, and best of all...it's cheaper!!

First of all, no one "owns" a cat. They own you! Regardless of the brand your cat decides to like, be sure to have fresh water available.

My 2 cats prefer Deli-Cat over any other brand. The will eat Whiskas and Friskies but they go crazy over Deli-Cat. I find it's cheapest to buy at a Wholesale Club, such as BJ's or Sam's club.

Our cats like Meow Mix, however given the chance, half of them prefer to join the dogs with the puppy chow.

One of our cats absolutely adores doritos and ritz crackers. Will drive you crazy if you are eating them.

Cat Chow all the way. We offer some canned food a couple of times per month. Atticus loves it, Stormie likes it, and Peanut tries to bury it.

IAMS. They like the Ocean Fish flavor best.

Anybody has had any experience with the automatic "litter maid"? I plan on getting one, but I'm still not sure.

I can't imagine my cats using it. Once they heard it working, they would most likely be scared of it.

We use tall garbage can liners in our litter boxes. You just turn the liner inside out to remove it from the litter pan when you clean it. I can clean both boxes in just a couple of minutes this way. The boxes stay clean and dry too.

Ivana Tramp loves her Science Diet, Fur-ball control (the dry food), lightly dampened with a little broth from the home-made chicken soup...and of course, some of the chicken; but she does not seem to like my Matzoh Balls...

My guy eats Purina Special Care. Plus he must have his "kitty treats" every morning or he'll just die! wah wah wah....I don't hear the end of it til I get outta bed & give him his kitty treats. You know, those crunchy tartar control ones?

Scared of that electric litter box. I'm also thinking that would freak him out. Besides, with him, I have to devise this elaborate contraption cuz he tends to pee over the side of the box. So I have to line it with this heavy visqueen (don't know how to spell it!) plastic and tape it up on the wall about 2 feet high around 3 sides of the box...It's quite an ordeal that I must do to keep him from getting it on the floor & walls! Never knew anyone like him!

I have had a Litter Maid for over a year and both of my cats use it with no problem. My one cat, Jasper, is a little fraidy cat and it took him some time to get used to it. In the mean time, I would have 2 litter boxes - the litter maid, and a regular litter box on the other end of the house. Now I only have the Litter Maid and they use it with no problems at all. Missy can hear it from the other end of the house and as soon as it starts up she runs to it just to watch it! If you are planning on getting a litter maid, just have a spare regular litter box until the cats get used to it. They will warm up to it eventually. I had serious doubts that Jasper would ever use it but he's been using it for a long time now. If I can get him to use it, you can get any cat to use it!

preacher4u, I had the opposite experience with the littermaid. I don't recommend it. Noisy, not powerful enough (if the litter isn't distributed evenly it will get stuck) and the containers for it are expensive as well. If you do buy one make sure it's a place that will accept returns in case your experience is akin to mine.

I switched my cats over to science diet, and they've never been happier. I've got a 17 pound Maine coon cat that was really lethargic until he got on the science diet, and now he actually will get up and do things. Maybe it's the food, then again maybe it's the spring-like weather here in northern California.

Nutro-Max. No by-products.

She likes Pounce treats too.

And don't even think about eating chicken without giving her some.

Purina Cat Chow daily and Fancy Feast a few times a week. One cat loves vegetables - cooked beans, green peas, and green peppers - so he gets those as well.

sharkbaby, I can sympathize with the plastic wrap routine. For years I thought that my male cat was spraying the wall behind the litterbox, but I finally caught my dainty little girl doing it. She would start out with her butt down in the litter and gradually raise her rear until it was higher than her head. For ten years I had to wrap the wall and two sides with plastic.

Both of our litter boxes are the covered type, so when the cats have "missed", it is still contained in the box.

They don't seem to mind the covers, but they have always been there so they were used to them from the start.

Meya, I tried the covered boxes, but the male cat freaked out.Even though he liked to play in cardboard boxes, he wouldn't go into the covered litter box. I think it was because the boss cat would trap him there at his most private moment and attack him when he emerged. He was probably three years old by then so he was set in his ways.

saabsister: YUP! That's exactly what he does! Before we got our new house his litter box was in the room I used for my office so if I was sitting there I reached back and pushed his butt down. Didn't seem to phase him at all.....The things we do!

He's a very good boy tho!

We used to feed ours Science Diet for years. One of our boy kitties had a urinary problem so the vet put him on one of their special ones to help clear it up. Then he strongly recommended using their maintenance formula. We had a 16 year old cat at the time too and she was also lethargic. When they all started eating the Science Diet we couldn't believe our eyes! Our old gal not only perked up, but started playing like a kitten again! That put an end to the griping about the cost. Not to mention they ate less and their, ahem, waste didn't smell as bad.

These days we feed them Iams, it's a little cheaper and as good in my mind (I used to work for a store like PetsMart). We just switched over to the hairball formula thanks to some advice here They weren't thrilled at first, but like it now. Now if they would just stop hacking things up...

*Edited to add that since we started with the 'premium' pet foods, none of our kitties have ever had urinary problems (we're talking over the course of more than 15 years and 3 generations of kitties). And that's a big problem with cats.

Joyce It is possible that bobbysoxer was unaware that there was such as thing as Science Diet for pets. Perhaps giving her the benefit of the doubt would be appropriate?

Or maybe it was a joke: FOOLS DAY = use SCIENCE DIET = Get SMART?

Anyway, Thanx
