Dumbya's attention is drawn to baseball, as if it ever left. Announcing that he is embarking on a four year program funded by You to revitalize "our national pastime". Under that new religgious family and other values office a T-ball (?) field will be built on the white house grounds and teams or individuals will be brought there to play under the expert tutelage of coaches from the resident's cabinet (har!).
"The tee-ball scheme reeks of banana republic politics. It's embarrassing to have the leader of the free world whiling away his days watching tot tee-ball and exhorting Manager/Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld to put in a pinch-hitter. (It conjures up images of Idi Amin or some other tin-pot dictator ordering his ministers to wrestle for him.)"
And it's even worse than that....

I agree that this is totally inappropriate. He should act more presidential and be in the oval office with an intern!

Everybody has an agenda.
And, in my experience, very rarely is it the one stated.

That would be an adult and very willing intern.
Best one with NO "friends".

eyeman,
Some men prefer the outdoors.
Helen
edited to add, "with an intern".
edited again to remove "real" before men
because of course that would be false in
this case.

eyeguy6, the comparison game is getting old. Clinton is a scumbag. But that still doesn't change that Bush is a coked up aging frat boy.

James- Why is it that comparisons to Clinton are "old" but Bush, Sr and Reagan are still fair game?

krs,
Am I to infer from your question mark after "T-ball" in your opening post that you don't know what it is, that you can't figure out why they'd play it at the White House, or that you're unsure of the spelling?
Sorry, not a mod post...just a Pat post.

You don't address policy, or anything else that effects the country or the world when you pester about interns, eyeguy, and if that's all you can come up with as critisism you are wasting your time.
Things went smooth and well with Clinton, whatever sort of antics he did on the side, but so far Bush is all antic and no clear or effective policy.
Did you want to discuss drunkenness, or drug use, or sevice avoidance, or illicit dealings , or any of the other questionable portions of personal history by Bush in comparison to Clinton's time with an intern? I thought not.

Hi Pat,
I really don't know what it is, although I've got an idea of it as a baseball sort of pee-wee golf.
I'm just going out the door now, but I'll certainly look for a fuller and more accurate description upon my return.

David Plotz and his statements in that article were very amusing. Laughable in fact. He's against baseball (T-ball) being played by young children on the WH grounds? What a joke his reasons were on why it should not be tolerated. Just proves to me how 'out-of-touch' with the American people some others are.
And on the subject of time away from his or Clintons duties. I see no difference between Clinton taking time away from his duties to meet with his women, or Bush spending some of his free time to watch some kids having fun. Is no president allowed to have outside interests?

krs,
No need for further explanation...you've got the general idea. But the tee is higher and there's no hole in the ground to aim for.
My son played, but I think he was about five years old at the time. Needless to say, I haven't attended a game since that time so the memory is a bit foggy.

Also, remember that Mr. Clinton's activities took far less time...hmmmm... than playing ball (No offense, Mr. Clinton, but even you cannot make it last longer than a ball game )

T-ball is a game usually played by children between 4-7 years old. Instead of having a pitcher, the ball is placed on a T-stand for the kids to hit off of. It is a fun game to watch unless you just totally dislike watching kids play. I love it when kids in the outfield get tired and just sit down, or wander off to pick grass, or stop running the bases to talk to another kid.
I really fail to see how letting kids play the game once a month on the white house lawn is such a big deal to anyone.

You know perfectly well one problem I had with Clinton was his lying under oath.
That wasn't the point. If Clinton can spend his time with the girls, I stated I didn't see anything wrong with President Bush taking time to enjoy himself watching T-ball and providing some fun for little ones.
inside Your description of how much fun it is to watch these little ones and all the things they do while on the field, is so true. They're hysterical. Any person who hasn't had an oportunity to see this is really missing out on a great day of fun and laughs.

speaking of the "little ones"
Congress allocated 2 billion last year for the Child Care and Development Block Grant.
That was an increase of 817 million, enabling states to provide day care to 241,000 additional children.
Bush plans to cut the program by 200
million.
Now he wants to play ball. Nonsense!!!!
