I think they should legalize it everywhere. Maybe then, the moderators would be in a better mood.

Good for them....if it's efficacious in the treatment of a disease or to relieve pain, it's worth persuing.

IMO, it's about power and control...If I could grow Prozac in my back yard, I imagine Lilly would be a bit miffed...

In the natural drug market, it's difficult for the government or corporations to control supply and demand, which is what they profit the most from...hence legislation outlawing the drug.

Having said that, folks who use it simply to escape reality, and, if they harm others while so situated, should be punished for their actions.

I also feel that sick people or those in pain shouldn't be denied a possible option in their treatment program..

Without knowing the details of the plan, I'll guess the government or a government approved business gets to "produce" the drug for sale...

Am I right or wrong...?

Interesting....I am wrong...it looks as if individuals will get the opportunity to grow their own medicine...with licensed businesses getting the rest of the pie...

Good for them...

angel4u-I agree it should be legal for medicinal uses, I think its legal here in WA state for that purpose only

But tell me my 20 year old isn't lying when she says in Vancouver its legal to smoke pot in certain 'cafes' I am not sure what they call them. She and her boyfriend have been up there a few times, and says its legal (at least in Vancouver BC) to use it in certain places?

I suppose that is nice to have that option.
I have terrible arthritis and the pain meds my doctor are giving me don't do much anymore but I can't see me using pot because I need to drive around and I have enough trouble thinking clearly. I can't see myself trading lack of pain for fuzzy headed and I have a bit of asthma also so I don't think any kind of smoke would be good for that. Doesn't sound like an option for me.

My understanding is that in BC it is still illegal, but the laws are not enforced, like in Amsterdam. However, I believe the cops have shut down places that are too open about it. I think the secret is to show reasonable discretion and not flaunt it and you'll be left alone. Not sure what they are doing about the large growers though.

Hopefully someone from BC or who is more familiar with the laws there will add to this thread.

Vancouver has SMOKING bylaws for all indoor public places. Restauraunts, bowling alleys, anyplace that is used by the public that is inclosed, anyplace that employees would be subjected to secondhand smoke---smoking is not allowed.

SO----there is no way that it is legal to smoke ANYTHING at any cafe in Vancouver, be it cigarettes, banana peels or marijuana.

The Cannibis Cafe that your daughter may be referring to was closed in June of 1999
http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/thread1706.shtml
but I don't think they ever claimed it was 'legal' to smoke in their establishment.

Yeah it was some kind of cafe, is how she explained it, but this was only about 2-3 months ago the last they went, I'll have to ask her what it was called, and what part of the city. (I'm sure it was illegal, but still going, like those Rave things down here ack)

Bringing this back up, because I was just talking to my daughter and asked her specifically where it was they went.

In February this year, she went to a place called Blunt Brothers, she said it is on the corner of Hastings and Hamilton? Anyway, she said, you just walk in and there's couches and chairs, they do want you to buy coffee or pop, but you can smoke away all you want
(get this, only pot, NOT cigarettes, go figure), and then there is an enclosed room, which she says they go there to 'hotbox' (and these are her words )

I'm sure its illegal, but its still open as of this year anyway, I don't know what kind of area of town this is, but she said, they sell all kinds of stuff out on the street openly.

And no, I don't like her doing this, but she is 'of age' and they went there for the weekend, because they can drink up there legally.
