And how do I fix it? My friend sends me jokes and they keep coming out like this when she sends them to me. And mine do also when I send some to her.

You are probably cutting and pasting HTML formatted text and your email program isn't displaying it properly (or can't).

Yep, that's what happens to html-formatted text when sent to an email client -- like AOL -- which doesn't recognize it.
