I realize this post may not get a boatload of responses, but I was just wondering if anyone else has heard The Irish Tenors.

I happened to run across them on PBS a few weeks ago and thought they were excellent. They turned out to be singing at the Seattle Opera House this month so I asked hubby for tickets for my birthday. We went to see them the other night and they were wonderful!

Anybody else out there love these guys, too?

James and opera don't seem to mix very much, sorry.

They're awesome!! And the Canadian one 'John McDermott' is a hottie.
http://www.johnmcdermott.com/

He's got about 6 CDs

I've been a fan of his for years---he did the most amazing Video with 'The War Amps of Canada' for their 'NEVER AGAIN' series.

He also does some wonderful work in the USA with raising money and awareness for Veterns----and will be doing a 'REMEMBERANCE TOUR' across the USA

Silly James---the Irish Tenors don't sing OPERA!! They sing Irish songs/ballads etc---all in English for poor James

I have watched them on PBS as well and found them to be absolutely delightful. We have a DVD with them singing Nessun Dorma and Libiamo Ne'Lieti Calici...wish I had a libretto. Very emotional and wonderful showmanship. Thoroughly enjoyable.
How wonderful that you had the opportunity to see them in person...My husband will watch with me when they are on TV but would never go to the Opera in Boston. Too, bad, high drama and exciting, IMO.

WELL BIG OOOPS, must read for understanding...you did say the Irish Tenors and I am referring to The Three Tenors...all Italian.

If John McDermott was an Irish Tenor, I wonder which one of the current three replaced him? I'm going to have to learn more about them!

I'd say *any* man who could sing to me that way would be a "hottie." If I weren't married I'd be tempted to actively seek out a talented tenor as my mate.

I found much of their live show to be very emotional. One song made half the audience cry, I think, myself included.

Zilvy, if we lived in the same town I'd go to the opera with you. I've never been and I doubt I'll ever convince my husband to go, either!

James -- I'd call the Tenors' style "operatic," but not opera.

We have a DVD with them singing Nessun Dorma

I don't know how many versions I have of fat men singing "Nessun Dorma" but they never fail to give me goose flesh. What a beautiful song. For me there is no finer aria.

Looks like John McDermott has been replaced by Finbar Wright.

John McDermott has always focused many of his singing on War songs and Ballads but from all over the world---and he's been a solo artist for so long. He has this one Australia song from WW I that gives me the shivers everytime I hear it.

McDermott is playing in Victoria in September. Maybe I'll have to check him out.

OK, now that I am focused on the RIGHT Tenors, yes I have also seen them on PBS and thoroughly enjoyed their presentations. I believe it was a couple of years ago when Zazzies" Hottie was with them. What fun figuring this all out. Thanks RainyBear.

I heard them on St. Patrick's Day on PBS. Pretty good.

My personal preference is baritone.

zilvy,

the Three Tenors are not all Italian.

Jose Carreras is from Spain.

Placido Domingo was born in Spain, moved to Mexico as a child.

Luciano Pavorotti is an Italian.

All 3 maintain multiple residences around the world.
