A remarkable thing about John Lee Hooker was his accessibility to "ordinary" people who liked his music. The guy played tens of thousands of gigs in small towns at reasonable ticket costs. Mostly in America, but a lot of similar gigs in other places. A musician very much in the sense that musicians existed before there were super-wealthy rock stars.

I loved his stomping style, just him with a guitar and his feet.

Goodness...this is frightening...I was most likely listening to John Lee Hooker before James was a gleam in his Daddy's eye.

Nice, krs, and thanks.
Focuses the bummer of the news more to appreciation of him in life. Glad he was there.

Off to root through the LP's. Way he sounded first, and way I wanna hear 'em now...

I think it was 1965 or early 66…
I met him in a eatery in old town in Chicago, shared a booth with him, the place was packed.
I asked if I could set and drink my coffee, the counter was full.

He said
"you sure you want to, you being white ?"
I said
"I from Iowa, and my feet are sore.
He said
"Slide on in"
I did not know it was John Hooker till his ride came to pick him up.

My jaw fell on the floor, I said "can I touch you ?"
He took my hand and said "I going to have to look into iowa, one of these days. and left.

So smooth…
He paid my bill,

It hurts to lose your past, with whats out there now.
