There is topic here that asks if B&H is fading. I rather head a topic positively. I think it is alive and well. And I like it better than Ebay even with fewer customers.

I agree, my eBay sales have pretty much dissolved, but Bargain and Haggle seems to be doing more business for me. I am going to list there more heavily than usual. Just stick to eBay for higher end for sure sales.

Agreed on those statements.....I sell things on ebay that I know will at least get bids (and usually more than a few)...I will list on BargainandHaggle for a while, and also Carnaby!
See what happens!

I'm just wondering...do you get a lot of low ballers on B&H? I have had some success there but find a lot of offers insulting like 2.00 on a 20.00 item. Then again, I have had some very decent offers.

Why not just jack the starting price up 100% and then use the 40% filter. No more insulting bids!

That's the tricky thing for me finding the right starting price. Sometimes people will offer you half the price you are asking (I use the 40% filter) sometimes they offer more. I guess the goal is to ask enough so you have some haggling room and not too much to turn the customer off. If someone has figured the best way to do this, please let me know!

Moonmem - Me too! I was trying to price maybe 25% higher than I thought I could get, but not sure if that the way to go.
I was so disgusted with one offer, I think it was about 10% of my asking price, I countered offered with a dollar higher than my original price
Needless to say I never heard from that person again except the walk away notice.

I have had pretty good results on Bargain and Haggle the past week. As for the low ballers I just counter with my "best" price and if they don't accept I just walk. I don't take it personally. You get that everywhere. First they complained about reserve auctions, then starting bids were too high I guess some of these bidders need to take a crack at selling for losses.

I have tried that too to offer my lowest price to the person who low balls. I find they usually walk away. Does anyone else get people who ask the question "what is the lowest you will take for this item?" I just tell them to make an offer but they don't. I'm not sure how to answer that.

Just received a bunch of email newsletters from various sites: eBay and BillPoint crying out for support for Auction for America (chucked it), ePier telling you how much of a great deal the site is for sellers (boring), and then BargainandHaggle's which stood head and shoulders above the others cause it's funny and an entertaining read. BargainandHaggle is definitely a class act!

I have never sold on B&H do they have a chat board so I can go and see what is going on with other sellers? So far I am listing with auctionsaloon, bidville and ebay always on the look out for a site that will help me move my items lol.

I moved most of my stuff off bidville to bargain and haggle. The format is different but refreshing. I am pleased with my results vs bidville. I also get more hits than yahoo. It is real easy to list once you get the hang of it. As for chat board I'm not sure never looked too hard.

Hi Telwil = This is first time I have heard of auctionsaloon - How is that going? How long has it been in existence?

I don't think BnH has a chat board.

If you like the sell through on BargainandHaggle, then you might want to try listing fixed price items in Half.com's new Everything Else category. They have free listings and a 15% FVF, but things will move. 95% of the items I've sold the past 15 days on Half have come from that category. In fact, thanks to Everything Else, my Half.com sales the past 15 days have matched my total Half.com sales figure for May through August. The site's come back to life!

Half.com will probably give you better sell-through than BargainandHaggle since it probably has at least three times the reach and it has eBay's marketing machine behind it. BargainandHaggle's negotiation feature and fees are more appealing than Half though.

The more great venues where you can sell anything, the better! Let's hope Yahoo and Carnaby pick up the pace next!

Hi tturtle=AuctionSaloon has not been on line very long they shut down for a time because they were not happy with the way the site run so they redone everthing "I like the new changes" they are still making changes adding to the site.

Moonmem hi that is to bad no chat board I find that very helpful to be able to talk with other sellers and buyers about problems on the site and other sellers can give me very good ideals on what I should do to improve my auctions. I feel a chat board for any site is a must people need to be intouch JMO.

I sell on half.com, but like B&H a lot more. would like to see it take off. If it does not, there is nothing buy ebay, which is half.com. And I do not think they are as user freindly as B&H.

Yes telwil I agree an chat board would be very helpful on BnH. I will have to try a few things on Half.com.

I agree, BargainandHaggle is my favorite selling venue, BAR NONE! However, I try and use any venue that has respectable sell-through. The more viable venues I have available to me, the better chance I have at success!

If the market, the economy, and consumer confidence turn around next year, with all these venues picking up steam, auctioneers could have an incredible year in 2002! We just need to be ready to take advantage of it.

I signed up at B&H recently, but I have yet to list an item there.

My problem is that the minimum FVF isn't worth it, IMO for the small items I typically sell, which close for under $5 in most cases. Compared to B&H fee of .50, I can relist twice on Yahoo and as long as it sells the second time (which I find many do), then I'm only out .40. If it sells on the first Yahoo listing, it's only .20!

I think some would tell me to take my videos and go to Half.com - but I have no desire to do it - I don't like the "no contact" scenario among other things.

grantje,

The problem with your statement is that you said 'I can re-list twice on Yahoo for that'. Remember that Bargain and haggle doesn't have a listing fee. So, you take the .20 it costs to list on Yahoo + the FVF and I think you will find them to be less expensive. I think a lot of people forget about that when comparing fees. Listing fees add a giant risk to any seller because you have to pay them no matter what.
