Does anyone know what the top auction sites are? I know eBay is probably the number "1" site out there, but are there any other Auction sites worth selling on. I am preparing to sell on internet auctions in the near future. Any advice would be great.
Thank you,

Just kinda depends on your definition of top is? I like to rely on top9 which provides stats for visitors...it does not provide stats for bids, items etc. but it does give you and idea of what the numbers are....hope that helps....

Why don't you give epier a try. We could use more buyers and sellers here. I'm doing quite well on this site. Actually better than I did on eBay in the last 2 months. And its FREE. This allows me to list my items at rock bottom prices. Take a look and try it!

Those are kind of old numbers. I think those numbers were posted 1/01 that took into account the month of 12/00. They haven't posted new numbers yet.

I don't even see ePier at http://www.epier.com mentioned. I think that one would be worth taking a look at.

My suggestion would be to try Epier. They may not be in the top 5 yet but my guess is that it won't be long. Great site!

I also would have to say ePier it is one of the fastest growing free auction sites out there.

I have looked around and ePier is where I deceied to go. No Fees, easy to navigate, on site image hosting and great tech support.

ePier is full of friendly sellers willing to help other sellers out in a heartbeat. The bidding there is picking up everyday. Well worth the time to at least check it out.

Hope to see you there soon. aka QualityUsedClothing

lofternari: thank you for you first, one, and only post here on AW... as you can see, it received a response just 90 seconds later...
I sure wish I could be at that right place where I could see a new post (the first in over an hour), read it, come up with a reply, type that reply, and submit it and have it posted all in 90 seconds...
seems almost "IMPOSSIBLE" without being pre-meditated, but... just another co-inkee-dink I guess

LMAO!!! Top9.com seems to have forgotten to count Yahoo and Amazon as auction sites. I believe Toyranch pointed this out in another thread in this forum...

It is my opinion that the fraudulant facts were brought into play here for only one reason...
To bring a particular auctions name into the fray, that no one else would mention.
The list was bogus from the beginning, since other then ebay and bidbay, no one knew who the other 8 were anyways...LMAO
All listings of those other 8 combined, couldn't match the listing numbers in the "chartreuse yarn" catagory at ebay...LOL

Opals if you don't want to spend .30 to list your items at GREEDBAY, then go to NOBidsbay and list there for free. It is, after all, a free country.

Looks like there aren't any buyers at Epier to speak of, either. Hard to spend time listing when you won't get bids.

If you would like to see bids, look at my auctions over there. Over 50 auctions have bids with many having multiple hits. I'd say they are picking up faster than I thought they would. Where ever anyone ends up though, I wish them all the luck!

Call me a newbie, but you seem to be doing extremely well with something I would have thought had limited prospects. Looks like you have at least 5 bidders on all those items with bids, too. Noticed none of those bidders have feedback yet. Do be sure to list good feedback for them. I looked at the site earlier and searched under frames. Nothing had a single bid.

Pretty cool huh! I decided that if buyers weren't going to come to me, I was going to find the buyers. I did a search for message boards and started plugging the name where ever I could. I happened upon a few Plastic canvas message boards where some posts needed books I had listed. I e-mailed those people directly and then posted a link on their message board to view the site.
Amazing the results I got. Within hours of posting to these boards, the bids started rolling in. I hope I can do this with whatever area I decide to sell in.

Based on the positive comments everyone has been leaving about epier, I will try them tonight for the first time. Last week I launched a few auctions on Excite Auctions for the first time and had one winner, who paid the following day. I find the Excite site difficult to navigate however, compared to ebay. Last week I also listed on the Pottery Auction for the first time and had one winner there. But this person has not responded to my congratulatory e-mail so who knows if she will pay. This week I tried Lycros Auctions, which I realize is part of the Fair Market group (or whatever they're called). So far no bids and it doesn't feel like there's much traffic there. I don't want to rely solely on ebay anymore, so I'll give epier a try. I also plan to try Popula by using their "1st 10 Auctions" free promotion as soon as I have 10 more-or-less off-beat items to list. Thanks for the comments everyone leaves on AuctionWatch about other auction sites. You've pointed me in a new direction...by the way, if you sell pottery, porcelain or figurines you might try The Pottery Auction. They are small but I do see some bidding action.

I just looked at potteryauction.com
Nice looking site with clear listings, but do wish they would place the search function more promeniently. I found it only on the site map. Like search on every page, makes it so much easier to browse.

Hello fullofginger
There is only one true and accurate answer to your question.
1. Ebay
2. Ebay
3. Ebay
4. Ebay
5. Ebay
6. Ebay
7. Ebay
8. Ebay
9. Ebay
10.Ebay
As a new seller online you will quickly learn how valuable your time is listing and completing transactions. To even bother selling anywhere else is simply a waste of time. Even these large auction sites backed by millions of dollars have failed. You will run across many cheerleaders for smaller, free, wanna be sites, telling you how great they are. Dont waste your time. Moste of them will be gone in less than a year. They have no traffic, no advertising, and no ability to support heavy traffic, and no money to last much longer.
Dont rely on the top9.com rating either. It is very inaccurate to say the least. I hope this fact based information helps you. Good luck in your ebay endeavours. You will find that devoting your valuable time to your ebay business will return the best rewards.

Ebay... LOL... not for long.... I love telling my Ebay customers that they can buy my antiques from Epier.com. Got 3 new buyers within 2 weeks from one Ebay auction. Have several more on the way. Ebay is going to sink fast! I would be sad, but Ebay is pushing themselves off their own plank. Well, back to the pier!

Hi, just thoght that i would mention BIDVILLE.
I am currently running 80 auctions there, 27 have bids. Also have 6 closed with successful bids, 1 deadbeat so far.
This site is growing dynamically, and shows a lot of promise. I sell glass and china collectibles, you did not mention your area, but some items are doing better than others. As this is a relatively new site, people have to do more than just wait for the bidders, you have to find ways to go out and find people and generate interest. A lot of people are doing this, and it is working.
It is unreasonable, IMHO, to expect an auction site to provide free listing and other amenities and also to spend like crazy to bring the bidders. While efforts are made, it is going to be up to the people who are selling on any site to get the buyers there to take a look. Once someone does check out a site, they have to find things that pique their interest in terms of both items and price attractiveness. There are no secrets to success, just keep working at it. I wish you luck where ever you end up listing.

Other than eBay, there aren't any auction sites which are good for auctioning all types of merchandize. So the answer to this will not be useful; instead you need to ask what are the best selling venues for a particular type of merchandize. For books, for example, the best alternative selling venues are not auctions but are fixed price sites: Advanced Book Exchange (ABE), Alibris, Amazon Marketplace/Zshops, Bibliofind and half.com

I have to agree with Grobe here--your success on various sites can depend largely on the type of merchandise you're selling.
I buy quite a bunch of stuff at ePier because there are many sellers who've moved there from other sites and I like their wares. I hardly buy anything off of eBay anymore--if I can find it on another site that's where my bidding will be. If it's a have-to case I'll search eBay.
On my website I have a list of over 50 on-line auction sites and I add more every couple of weeks. Check it out--I found quite a few surprises when I started putting the list together.
