When sending money through PayPal, it is best to be careful when advancing through the 3 screens involved. In particular, on the 3rd screen, there is a "Payment Method" choice to be made. In most cases, it is either a debit transfer from your checking account or a charge to your credit card. If the checking account method is chosen, PayPal will place a temporary charge on your credit card until the bank transfer is verified. As I understand it, this can take quite a few days. This is not, in most cases, the preference of most people. BUT THIS IS THE DEFAULT and a person has to be aware of this and physically change the selection to the credit card method. This being the "DEFAULT", many people are now realizing that they have zipped through the process too quickly and find that, in addition to having their checking account debited, their credit card is also being attached for a period of time. PayPal, please remove this Default and require the user to make a choice at this point in the transaction. With the Default in place, some users are unknowingly making the wrong choice when just zipping by the Default.

The reason that PayPal has made the bank account the default account is because they don't have to pay credit card processing fees on an ACH withdrawal from a bank account. But what really bites is that they still charge the fees to the recipient as though it did in fact come from a credit card. PayPal is making out like a bandit on this one.

Exactly - PayPal isn't completely dumb! But what gets my dander up is that most buyers who utilize PP are doing so in order to pay by their credit card. Wasn't this the big push? Paying by credit card? And they are being duped by this DEFAULT on the 3rd and last Send Money screen. So we end up with a lot of people bent out of shape (and rightly so) because PP thinks that no one is watching. PP should, in addition to hiring a second engineer, enroll their employees and decision makers and code writers into a business ethics course - which, of course, is not much more than good old common sense. You want your customers to remain customers, then treat them the way you would like to be treated.
