BILLPOINT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE EBAY
In early November, Billpoint will be available for your use outside of eBay. Now you can offer your customers the convenience and security of Billpoint payments no matter where you conduct business!

I've decided to switch to Billpoint because I'm really tired of Paypal lying to me and changing their TOS on a daily basis. Besides, all these horror stories about Paypay have scared me off them.

The fees of both service are on parity, but at least Billpoint has their act together. I also see other benefits of Billpoint...let's see, they don't insult your intelligence by denying that they lied to you, they don't update their TOS on a whim, and they're much more secure and rebust because of their partnership with a brand name (i.e. Wells Fargo).

After my experiences with PayPal, I'm a little gun shy about using
any payment method beyond checks and moneyorders. But, if I recover,
I certainly will consider Billpoint.

Billpoint is still promoting their service in a dishonest manner.

For instance, in their Billpoint/Paypal comparison, they don't mention that their "daily sweep" feature is mandatory, while Paypal's is optional. So Billpoint's required fees are really 0.5% higher than the numbers they put in their Billpoint/Paypal comparison.

Plus, Billpoint has (or at least had; I haven't checked recently) various hidden charges. IIRC, if a buyer files a chargeback, Billpoint charges a $30 investigation fee even if the chargeback is fraudulent.

Billpoint's chargeback investigation fee is plainly stated on the fee schedule page:

Chargebacks: If the credit card issuing bank resolves a chargeback dispute in the buyer's favor, you will be charged the total transaction amount plus a $10 chargeback investigation fee.

Is there some other fee that's not in the user agreement?

If you go to the User Agreement, and click on fee information, you get a page that includes these two paragraphs:

----BEGIN----

If you are not yet registered with Billpoint, click here for general fees information.

If you have already registered with Billpoint, you can view your fee schedule by clicking on the Fees and Policies link in your My Billpoint account.

----END----

It turns out that Billpoint has two different fee schedules. The one they show to people to induce them to sign up doesn't mention the investigation fee. The other one you can't see unless you sign up for their service.

I also haven't been able to find out the difference between a regular account and a merchant account. Since the comparison to Paypal fees is based on the less-expensive merchant account, it's important to know how one qualifies for that rate.

I call that sleazy and dishonest. Users ought to be told ALL of the fees, before they sign up for the product.

I don't know how many different fee schedules BillPoint has, I know they had 3, probably 4 levels before September. I can't prove this, they will not give you an answer to this question, believe me I've tried. They'll only say that they have different tiers to accomodate different seller's needs.

We were being charged the highest rate on Billpoint until I emailed them about it. We were immediately upgraded to the lowest rate.
The rate you are charged depends on your volume of sales on Ebay and also your feedback.

I did the same thing as outoftheblue. Billpoint lowered my rate within a couple of days. It's worth asking.
