Here is an exact copy (name of buyer x'd out) of a confirmation email I got from PayPal this evening:
You've got cash!
XXXXX just sent you money with PayPal.
Amount: $7.50

Thank you for using PayPal!
Does anyone notice anything missing here? Like, maybe the shipping address?
Now, I've gotten many, many emails from PayPal regarding auction payments and this is the first one ever that didn't provide any auction info. or an address to ship to!
Fortunately, the buyer sent an email stating she'd paid via PayPal and gave the auction number and her shipping address in that email.
Now how can PayPal send an email without the shipping address?

Oh, and yes, I forgot to add, the money is in my account. (I always check first.) So, it wasn't a fake email.

PP does not send the shipping address. There is a place for the sender to fill it in, but if he doesnt, you dont get it. Also, if he is using a stolen credit card, you have no way of knowing that you are shipping to the wrong address, which will result in a charge back being made to YOU not PP. It is a very simple matter for PP to automatically send the address, which begs the question, why don't they. http://www.ygoodman.com [email protected]

Thanks yisgood and vargas! I had absolutely no idea about this. It's been awhile since I signed up with PayPal, but I don't recall it being optional as to whether or not you could give PayPal a shipping address. I know that when I've paid for items with PayPal, the default is to include the address I registered under. And every other email I've ever received has always included a shipping address.
Oh well, just another thing to have to check up on....

If you pay for an auction using the auction payment screen, it will put the address in for you (unless you check the box that says don't).
If you pay for an auction just using the standard pay screen, it does not fill in the address.
You've been lucky if this is the first time, the shipping address hasn't shown up.
