Does anyone know where there is a list of all the on-line payment services with their rates and possibly their good and bad points? I have seen comparisons at various sites that are touting their own service, but know of no place where these services have been evaluated by a neutral party.

Leaving Paypal because of the new rules and regs that keep changing all the time seems like a prudent idea until an alternative needs to be chosen. Having gone through the changes in Paypal, I certainly do not want a repeat performance somewhere else. That sort of eliminates for a while all the newer services that I USED to call "paypal wanna bes". They may learn from paypal's mistakes, hopefully, but need more time to prove themselves before I jump on the bandwagon again. Sort of a "once burned twice shy" situation.

Anybody know where that impartial information can be found?

It keeps popping up here over and over. In short:

Free:

Exchangeplace: even accepts Amex and discover. Has worked well for me and I havent seen a bad word about it

Payplace: also no complaints and I have used it for about 6 months

Achex: works bank account to bank account. No charge backs possible. Fastest service in town, you have the money in about 2 days.

Moneyzap: worked well for me. They will start charging soon.

Paydirect: run by the same Yahoos who believe you can run one of the world's most active sites with no human intervention. Buyers can charge back anything at any time and get their money back, no questions asked. The seller will be charged and won't even be asked to provide proof of delivery. Just wait until the same clowns who deadbeat under multiple fake IDs discover this. Some already have. Don't bother emailing them, you'll get a canned response and it will probably be on a completely different topic. Use them if you like giving stuff away. Their slogan is "fast, easy and free (just charge it back)."

"Anybody know where that impartial information can be found?"

Do some searches for news stories, CBS Market Watch, CNN Financial News, CNet, etc. Basically the news wire services are going to be what you've to look at for impartial information (or as close to impartial as you'll find).

Paypal established Dec 1998 = almost two years in existance.

Exchangeplace June 2000 = barely 5 months. Is this time enough to let us see if they, too will change the rules. Note I am not accusing, but I did say I wanted to wait and see on these younger commpanies,

Payplace in business less than a year.

Bill point= forget it. I wouldn't trust eBay with my grandmother's old shoes. They will find a good way to shaft us here efventually.

Do you see my problem. I think I shall be encouraging people to return to the good old money order. Maybe encourage money orders, but can't think of a really good way to entice people to use them. Think this pay on line thing has to ripen a bit before I will bite again.

I started a thread: "List of Payment Services" in this same channel which might provide you with some of the information you seek.
