Hi,

I was sent the free debit card, and that's great.

It's very easy to use and very convenient.

I went to the Paypal site to sign up for my 1.5% cashback.

I was surprised when Paypal asked for my Ebay userid and password.

Paypal is the only payment service I offer and I can understand Paypal checking that before offering the 1.5% cash back.

But you can clearly see that from doing a search on my Ebay Id.

Why do you want my password?

Thanks!

ziggydog,

I'm not Paypal, but I think I can help. They need to have your password so that they can add the Paypal logo to your auctions and to do that they need your password, otherwise they can't get the logo on your auction.

Hope that helps,

Joice

No one is ever suppose to ask for your password. At least that is what we are all told.

I understand the reasoning, but, why can't they just give you a line to code to insert in your auctions yourself?

With your user name and password they have access to your whole account. I don't think I like that.

EVERY service which ADDS something or otherwise MODIFIES your auction listings obviously needs your eBay user & password!

Does not appear to be a big deal. However, your listings look CLEANER if you just use the HTML code (see MANUAL on the PP site) to incorporate the logo in your DEFAULT terms, as opposed to the AUTO-LOGO-ADD that PP offers!

Of course, this is JMH&WO!

Tom --

That's what I already have. I put the Paypal logo in every auction, and that's easy enough for them to check.

Which is why I'm asking why they need the password.

I wouldn't hesitate, but after the fiasco with the automated EOA they decided to use, I'm not sure.

I've never had a problem with Paypal, and only use them. I refuse to sign up with 'new' services, as I've done that only to see them go out of business.

I would just like an explaination as to why they require the password...I'm really surprised Damon hasn't responded yet.

Damon is on vacation.

I gave them my eBay password and I don't have any logos inserted nor to I have the automatic PayPal EOAs. Giving PayPal your eBay password allows them to verify that the ID is really yours.

All that proves is that the PayPal user knows a password to an eBay account. It could be a secondary eBay account that the person has, or an account of a spouse, relative, or friend. PayPal would then be looking at the "wrong" eBay account, e.g. an account that perhaps never posts auctions.

The possible benefit of doing this is left as an exercise to the reader...
