Seller Protection Policy Changes
Notice Date: July 14, 2001
Effective Date: August 3, 2001
Effective August 3, 2001, to qualify for the Seller Protection Policy, sellers will need to respond to claims against them in the following time periods: When a complaint occurs, sellers need to provide complete information within 7 days of a request from PayPal. However, if PayPal is required by the credit card association to respond immediately to resolve a chargeback, sellers must provide the information within 3 days. PayPal will indicate the response time required in the e-mail message sent to the seller. Sellers who provide the required information within the appropriate time frame, and meet the other criteria of the Seller Protection Policy, will be protected from chargebacks resulting from a buyer's unauthorized use of a credit card or claims of non-shipment of goods (even if the credit card association resolves the dispute in favor of the buyer).

I have a question for Damon - what is a seller supposed to do when they go on vacation, take their auction records with them in case a chargeback happens? Or can they request an extension in providing the information if they don't have access to it for a valid reason like vacation??

Didn't you hear...businesses never take vacations...
Most of my colleagues have employees who handle those sorts of things...part of the accounts receivable department....
Most of the info for the seller protection plan is already on the net or easily uploaded.....
I was even able to plug my laptop in at a safari lodge in Zimbabwe...access wasn't cheap but it was available...
I also accessed the net when we were in Hawaii for our wedding...shared pix with friends back on the mainland in near real time...
Where there's a will, there's a way...
I do think they should amend the terms to read "business days" instead of "days" because, if a holiday is thrown in, many businesses wouldn't even see a notification until after the 3 day limit has expired...

Well I'm a company of 1 - so I'm it. And I don't keep the DC#'s online anywhere, just keep the receipts in an envelope with the rest of the monthly receipts. 8)
I guess I'll start a column on my Excel spreadsheet for DC#'s, so if I had to access from remote, I can get the number immediately if I need it...

Have you looked into this service from USPS to see if it can assist you in handling your shipping documentation online?
I do most of my business on a will-call or delivery basis so haven't taken the time to look into incorporating USPS shipping structures into my business web site....
But, it might be worth a look-see if you also have a web site...
