I would like to make a payment on an auction using the credit card I have on file at PayPal. But when I try to make the payment, it defaults back to my PayPal balance.
Which is fine most of the time, but I would prefer to make this payment using my credit card.
I can't seem to change the method of payment. I have searched through the help section and cannot find a solution.
I would really like to pay for this item today. Can you help me figure out how to get the system to allow me to use the credit card instead of my PayPal balance?
Thanks in advance

This is one work around I know of.
Send yourself a payment to one of your email addresses that you KNOW Paypal doesn't have.... it will show as a Pending payment in your inbox and your balance will be 0.
You should now be able to make payment via the credit card.
Then cancel the pending payment to return the funds to your Paypal account.

Thanks. It seems a pain to me though. I think you should be able to choose your payment method. I know that you used to be able to do that.
I guess the methods have just changed since I last tried to use the credit card payment.

Hi,
The system will always look to the balance before charging a credit card or offering a different method of payment. The system assumes users want to pay from the existing balance.

The system assumes users want to pay from the existing balance.
...so you won't have the extra protections provided by the Fair Credit Billing Act and Electronic Funds Transfer Act, which are provided when you use a credit card or debit, respectively.
(regulations that, incidentally, guarantee the return of your funds should you win a dispute; something that PayPal's protection does not)

Question? If you have a balance, but your purchase is more, does it use the balance first and then charge the rest to the credit card? Just curious how that would work.

Yes, it will add the funds from the source of your choice, bank account or credit card. It will show you were the funds are coming from like:
100.00 from balance
125.00 from VISA card xxxx xxxx xxxx 12234
I've made purchases using both my balance and credit card funds.

The system assumes users want to pay from the existing balance.
...so PayPal doesn't have to pay any transaction fees to the buyer's credit card company.
Why not give the users a choice, instead of assuming what they want?

Hi mrpotatohead,
Suggestion noted. As an FYI, the system has always looked to balance first.

jwoodcrafts:
Another reason could be that your seller has set his preferences NOT to accept credit card payments. If that's the case, the credit card option doesn't ever show up....
(At least I think that's how it works...Damon?)
