A few months ago my account was restricted with PAYPAL.

My business account has $240.13 in it. The payments I
have received were from my satisfied customers to whom
I sold eBay auctions too.

I was told by customer service that I was restricted because I logged into my account while I was abroad on a business trip (and also pleasure).

I read Damon posting in auctionwatch :
http://www.auctionwatch.com/mesg/read.html?num=47&thread=3803
when I was going to write my story in here also, but decided to
email Damon first, in hopes that He can help me.
Before the account was restricted I added my credit card and checking account, using my eBay ID as the real business name, because it is for my business account.

I don't own a registered business
name with the state of CA yet, yet customer support insist that I send a business registration to prove that I own that company.

I used this name as it was my eBay nick, and it just asked me the info when I went to upgrade to a business account.
I used the name Syafi to register because my eBay nick was syafi and i accept payment for the ebay auctions via this account while both my bank account and credit card accounts are in my name. How do i get my account back with the included balance?

Kind Regards,
PAYPAL Email : [email protected]

I emailed damon on 2001 09 10 and he replied the same day saying

Hi,

Many thanks for the email. I am working this through account management
right now.

Many thanks for your patience.

Regards,
Damon

aljaleelusyafi,
Might be a good time to contact the BBB. Five months is a long time for someone to hold YOUR money hostage.

Wow, PayPal is sure slow to answer a complaint. Maybe they are hoping you'll give up, most people do after five months.

On September 21st Paypal sent me an email saying "Your account has been placed on restricted status because
we have noted some unusual activity in your account".I just want to let you know I have been with PAYPAL for 18 months and I am a VERIFIED seller.I have had 107 sucessful transactions through them , never a bad one.
This really gets me worried and angry as I have never had a charge-back or complaint from any user who has paid with Paypal...So I call about 30 minutes later from receiving the email because I am so worried about what has went wrong and why as they never stated exactly what the problem was in my email...
The guy I talked to(who was very nice) said he was over the debit card departmentand would transfer me to the appropriate department but the estimated waiting time would be 20 to 25 minutes...He said what he saw on my account was a IP address almost like mine except for the last 3 digits and it had been reported with fradulent activity..I said "I have 2 computers , my older one and my new one ,but only one phone line and no one here has a Paypal account but me because I really don't know much about computers just selling and buying on the internet..He said there were not any complaints about me but sometimes their computer sends an alert if the IP address of another user who is fradulent is similiar to another one...I ask him the name and he told me a "cliff" and another letter of which I will not name because I really don't know if this is the truth at this point..He was through the same internet provider as I am of which there are thousands of people in my county and the surrounding counties that use this provider...I check this user out by his email address given to me by Paypal at my auction site and he doesn't have not one feedback! His or her feedback is 0....This really makes me wonder but of course it could have been at another auction site..I had to fax a copy of my most recent bank account statement(I was verified through my bank at Paypal long ago and they had this info on me)drivers liscense , utilities and etc...
I faxed these Friday Sept. 29th...
During this time my account was charged twice for a payment I made to Ebay..Four days later they corrected the error...At one time I thought Paypal was the greatest thing that happened to auctions despite the horror stories I read thinking it would never happen to me but boy was I wrong! I do hope I can get my money back although it is just 32.00 I worked hard for it and it is mine..I have been with Ebay since 1998 selling and buying in my spare time..While my account is restricted I cannot send or get money from ATM but they will accept payments from my bidders...I sure hope this doesn't go on for 5 months as I read on these boards that someone else had went that long being restricted...If anyone else out there has similar problems please post here or if you have any advice it would be welcomed...Don't ever be like me and think it couldn't happen to you , don't keep a large amount of money in the account...I was lucky it was only 32.00!

I ask him the name and he told me a "cliff" and another letter of which I will not name because I really don't know if this is the truth at this point..He was through the same internet provider as I am of which there are thousands of people in my county and the surrounding counties that use this provider...I check this user out by his email address given to me by Paypal

PayPal gave you another user's name and email address?

PayPal gave you another user's name and email address?

We can choose to believe that, or we can choose to believe the obvious alternative.

I'm sorry. I forgot.

Mr P, I suggest you look over my reaction to various complaints. Some have the ring of truth, and suggest that the customer has a legitimate problem.

An outlandish claim suggests an alternative explanation.

YES mrpotatoheadd and roofguy , maybe I didn't explain this correctly the first time ,the Paypal representative told me the user's address and asked me if I knew anyone by that name (which was the first part of email address)or anyone with that complete email address. He asked was anyone living in my houshold by the name cliff and the other letter. He did not state any last name only the email address. As you know you can check out a user's feedback at Ebay by their email address.....I said I didn't know anyone that used that email address or by that first name..He said it could be someone that lives close in the area near me because sometimes their computer shows an alert when the IP address is similiar ...I am also like you this is unbelievable and I probably would not believe half of this if it weren't happening to me! I don't think he would have told me the email address of the fraudulent person if he had not been within his rights to do so and I feel he was right in telling me because I am the one restricted over this fraudulent user..
He said when I faxed all my information in , to prove I am who I say I am , then they should lift the restriction..I never had to give out this much information when I took out the loan on my home!
I think they should get this resolved quickly and not have me waiting around 5 months for something to happen... I really wanted to know was anyone having a similiar type of problem with this company ......

I am not sure I understand the statement from Roofguy in response to carolynsue post. Restricted status happens to many people who have PayPal accounts, so what does "obvious alternative" mean? It is not so obvious to me. Someone help me out.

"We can choose to believe that, or we can choose to believe the obvious alternative"
