Elimination of CC Receiving Limit (Personal Accounts Only)

Notice Date: October 11, 2001
Effective Date: November 6, 2001
To reduce the costs associated with credit card processing, the ability to receive credit card funded payments will become a feature reserved for Premier and Business accounts. Personal Accounts that receive credit card funded payments after 11/06/2001 may accept the payment by upgrading to a Premier or Business account, or they will have to deny the payment. Personal accounts will continue to be able to receive non-credit card funded payments for free. Once upgraded, Premier and Business Accounts may receive unlimited credit card funded payments

I see it as good news also.... Everyone accepting credit card payments will be on equal ground.

I think you'll find if you read through messages here and on other boards that PayPal's "seller protection" is anything but...

I think if you study all the avaliable information, PayPal's Seller Protection, beats most everone. (Most have NONE.)

The way I see it is when a merchant accepts a credit card they can challenge a chargeback and can't pass on the fees.
Paypal accepts payment, who knows if they challenge a chargeback, and they can pass on the fees.

Damon has already admitted that the only thing seller "protection" covers is if the CC is stolen or if the customer claims that the item was not received. It is already common knowledge to the scammers out there that all they have to do is claim that the item was not as expected and it's an automatic win. Sellers have been reporting for a long time customers paying with Paypal and using their credit cards, buying a brand new item and then returning a piece of junk and getting their money back.
I think this new move is great. Now I don't have to worry about someone paying me with a credit card and I dont have to worry about charge backs. Who would believe that a personal account would actually be better than a business account?
As for the claim that only Paypal has protection and other services have none, that is a Paypal distortion. Bidpay, Payingfast and C2it all protect the seller from fraudulent credit cards and charge backs (though C2it does reserve the right to do so if seller fraud is determined.) Best of all, these three services cost the seller NOTHING.

It really is great, as it will elliminate the less than serious players from the game.

I dont consider it a game either. However, the "players" will be the ones screaming the loudest!

Those of us who have a lower profit margin are playing a game. It's call dodgeball. Dodging extra fees here and there to try to make a little more profit, to cover our living & business expenses.

The ones who scream the loudest are the ones who are tired of being "fee'd" to death. And paypal fees are exorbitant and avoidable, in my opinion.

Overall great move. Now I won't have to hide my paypal account name from the bozos that send a credit card payment despite my crystal clear TOS saying I do not accept credit or debit card payments.

However, I did kinda like the option to get $100/cycle of credit card payments fee-free. I was willing to let exceptionally nice buyers use this option on less expensive items.

I'll still keep my business account though, along with the personal account. But I think all personal accounts will be done away with eventually anyway.
