I have tried IN VAIN via email to ask Paypal Customer Service how to close an account that is dormant (my husband's) that is listed under an old email address he no longer has.
I have also asked how to downgrade from a premier to a regular account IN VAIN - Never received anything but the non-responsive canned emails.
If anyone can tell me how to get an answer to either or both of these questions, I sure would appreciate it!

i think you can find the information on paypal website-close account and downgrading.
closing account you can do it yourself,or your hubby can do it.

If you log in to your PayPal account and click on "Help" and type CLOSE in the help search it would have told you this.
1.Click on the My Account tab 2.Click on the Profile subtab 3.Click on the Close Account link in the 'Account Information' column 4.Click Close Account 5.If you wish to continue, click Close Account
For downgrading an account, same thing, log on to your account, click on "Help" and type in "downgrade" and it would tell you this.
If you would still like to downgrade to a Personal account, click here. Please include 'Account Downgrade' in the Subject line. Note: If you are doing business online you are required to have a Premier or Business account. In addition, no fees will be refunded.

Rockynmouse:
The only 2 things that were effective for me when trying to get paypal to answer a question were #1) repeatedly faxing them @ (402) 537-5731, and #2) (but you have to log on to their web site) click on 'help', you'll be asked to make a few selections regarding the nature of your question - then at the bottom it says "if you still have questions, contact customer service by clicking here" or something like that. It then takes you to a text box type screen where you send them a message... again, and again, and again. Good Luck!!
P.S. - To answer your original question "Why won't paypal answer a simple question?" ... Because they don't know the first thing about customer service! And worse yet, THEY DON'T CARE!

PAYPAL I suspect was making it very difficult for anyone to cancel their accounts because of their impending IPO..
I am sure they would like to impress the investment bankers and the sorry losers who invested in their IPO about how many accounts they have.. its the same old game that AOL played followed by AMZN and YHOO and other internet companies..
The difference is that these other companies (dont include unscrupulous AOL in this) have some decency left in them..
