32 auctions ended today, 20 plus with winning bidders. I hadn't sold in awhile, about six months, and on these auctions since they were postcards I had decided not to use Paypal.

Surprise, surprise, paypal reset my preferences to send out automatic notification to winning bidders. The did so. I only found out about it when some of them replied to me from these notices.

I have had several pay through Paypal, I have also had several pay without postage. Three have e-mailed me, all slightly petulent in tone, saying they thought I would take checks and were surprised I wanted Paypal.

I like to handle all customer contact myself, I hate automated checkouts and etc. I am more than slightly angry at Paypal at present. I did not reset this preference, I never would do so.

I have e-mailed them but no response yet. I tried calling customer service, but was told there would be a 26 minute wait time to talk to a real person.

One more incident like this and that will be the end of my use of Paypal.

I like Paypal, but will not subject myself, and my customers to things like this.

Hi,

No, we are not. I've given your information to the tech support team for further investigation.

Technical issues can happen whenever you are dealing with programming.

Thank you for your patience. I apologize for any inconvenience you are currently experiencing.

This happened to my friend before (a few months ago). He only had a few auctions at the time, so it wasn't too bad. However he did get a few e-mails asking why PayPal just sent them (the buyer) a notice to pay even though they already paid via another payment method and received the item.

Damon, thank you for looking into it, and responding to my e-mails. I just thought folks should be warned so they could check their own preferences.

As for technical glitch or not, the result was that my preference was reset. I did not do so.

Folks... PayPal does this all the time to the buyers too but they don't seem to care as much about us. If a buyer opens an account, and then verifies it (to increase their spending limit) by giving their checking account information, PayPal defaults all future purchases to the checking account. To add to the confusion, after you verify all future purchases default to a quick pay option that does not make it clear that the checking account is the default method of payment. (You have not override it.)

I had this happen to me. I didn't find out that the amount was wrongfully taken out of my checking account until I had a problem with a seller. The PayPal customer "service" people said that they had other calls complaining of the same problem, but also said they would not correct the problem. Their response... "We've always done it that way... you should read better"! I stopped the payment... which then transferred the amount to my credit card. The seller was found at fault and my credit card was then credited. (Never any loss of money to PayPal.) My account remains on restriction because I exercised my consumer right and stopped the payment. Damon and others continue to deny that there is a problem.

There seems to be a pattern... seller/buyer beware!

There is always a problem. Please email your problems to [email protected] so I can compile them and hopefully submit them to a congressional hearing.
