You know, four months ago I would have argued with you about this.

Now I have to say I agree.

I have noticed a MAJOR decline in bids since just before the last free listing day. My items still sell well on eBay, so it isn't my inventory or pricing.

I had decent sell-through before the holidays, but then it pretty much just stopped. CHeap items, high-end items- it doesn't seem to matter. The bidding has STOPPED.

Granted, eBay has fallen since the holidays too, but some decline should be expected- that time of year is always big for my kind of item. But the drop at Yahoo is EXTREMELY noticeable.

I have been faithfully listing every week, but I think I'm going to start cutting back this weekend- I'm just not selling enough on Yahoo to make it worth the listing fees.

I think Ill just stick with our Yahoo! store.
I tried Yahoo! auctions becouse Im sick of Ebays expensive fees but if you think about it by the time something actually sells on Yahoo you already spent more then what you spend on Ebay.

Im just not understanding why Yahoo! keeps it running. They either need to come up with something to generate popularity or just shut it down completley

The majority of yahoo sellers like me put their seconds on yahoo, and advertise those items to our ebay buyers. It costs us $50.00 to list 1000 items for 10 days, or $5.00 daily. No newspaper can compete with that price.

It's only a five cents a listing if you never want to get more than $9.99 (can't count on any upbids on Yahoo!). Doesn't ANYBODY list middle or high end pieces over there? Might have something to do with the slow death of sales

We keep on seeing the posts about how cheap it is... but our listings were a lot more than five cents, so we've quit Yahoo.

(And why is this page so long, with a scroll bar? It looks OK, so maybe it's our machine?)

Its a pitiful dead auction site plain and simple.

Actually there is one marketplace that competes if not beats Ebay.

Yahoo! Shopping.

If they ever eliminate the auctions we will most likely get a yahoo store. They already have over 35,000 stores, so maybe that has something to do with them not pushing the auctions much anymore. If anyone sells jewelry yahoo auctions is having a showcase for it. The showcases seem to do pretty good.

I never wanted to try it with my main inventory for quantity/price reasons, but I'm starting to get into more expensive items, and may give it a shot.

But...

I already have a website. Is the traffic from Yahoo worth starting all over, or is it good enough to run both store sites?

No complaints here. Were not even listed in the search engines yet and we generate more sales then we ever did on Ebay.

BW- Thanks for the link, that's some really useful info.

NOw I have a few questions:

A) How much time does it take to get it set up? Obviously I already have product info & scanned images ready.

B) Can I set up my user name to be something different? My auction name is something stupid, and I can't change it.

C) Are the store ratings conencted to Yahoo Auction Feedback, or would I start with zero? Although my user name is useless, I do have excellent (and relatively high for Yahoo) feedback.

I list items over $10.00 frequently with decent success. You must remember this time of year, everything slows down because of tax time. Even ebay has slowed to a crawl. After April 15th, things will pick up again till mid summer. Always has in the past and I see no reason for that to change.
Yahoo auctions worthless? Not hardly.

They wouldnt be worthless if alot of the Ebay sellers would grab their nu%#@ and sell their items at Yahoo! for about a month.

All it takes is for each seller to list 50% of their items on yahoo, and navigate their ebay bidders to their yahoo auctions. And stick with it for a few months. Its so darn simple.

Hey BW!

HOW do you direct eBay buyers to Yahoo without breaking an eBay rule?

On my invoice, I generally direct them to *my own* website, where *I* make the profit, not eBay or Yahoo.

bigcity- OK, I'm coming along pretty well with the store. Are you aware of any message board devoted to Yahoo stores? I can see a few questions coming up and don't want to hog this AUCTION board.

Hi replaymedia,

I direct my ebay buyers by giving them my yahoo auction booth link in the EOA email, and I include a note with the link in each package I send. Also every question I get from ebay members I include the link as well. There isnt nothing ebay can do about it. You cant put a link in the about me section, or auction page. ebay will kill those auctions quickly.

And dont worry about clogging this slow forum up. I would like to know more about yahoo stores as well.

Hi Replay,

I kind of figured you would be having some problems with you're new store by now.It takes some time to learn everything. Its all pretty simple once you get use to it. If you dont have any specific questions to ask me, all I can tell you is to experiment. The controls are confusing at first but you will catch on.It just takes time. As for the look and features of you're store. Dont settle for the pre made templates. Knowing html helps. You're store can be customized in many ways.

Here Ill show you..

See how it looks different compared to what Yahoo! gives you. I didnt even half to spend any money to get a website designer. It takes time and work but it is well worth it.

Blairwitch THANKS! That is truly an interesting & professional study done on the Yahoo Store set up......that is presuming the marketing company isn't owned by Yahoo! LOL

We had considered a Yahoo Store, but my personal experience with Yahoo, on a trust level, hasn't been good, plus we already have 4 very active web sites, so really hadn't given it very serious consideration, but may look into it more seriously.

1. Question - are Yahoo store items as restricted as their auction site is?

2. At the bottom of the article, I got the impression that the company was using their Yahoo Store to generate traffic to their other web sites - I might have mis-read this, but that is what it "appeared" to say. Can you link from a Yahoo Store to another Web Site, on another domain? Now, "IF" one could do that I might be tempted to test a Yahoo Store.

Thanks!

You had me convinced. I tried it for a month. 156 Page views (Probably my own) and ZERO sales.

Granted *I* didn't point anyone there, I was really testing their ability to direct people to my store. My prices the same or lower than similar items in other Yahoo Stores.

It's a nice interface, and has lots of flexible options, but without them directing actual BUYERS to the store, I don't see much added value over designing your own website.
