Free Listing Day
Monday, February 2, is Free Listing Day on Yahoo! Auctions!
For one day only, we've waived the listing fees on every item you submit. Between 12:01 a.m. PT and 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday, you can submit as many auctions as you like for free.

Buyers, mark your calendars and get ready to bid! Our Free Listing Days generate thousands of new auctions. You'll find many great items in hundreds of popular auction categories.

Sellers, try out Yahoo! Auctions for free and generate big profits.

(Please note: Waived listing fees apply only to items that start at 99 cents with no reserve price. Transaction fees on successful auctions and special promotional fees for featured listings, gift icons, etc. still apply during this promotion.)

I was just going to post that as well.

You like how they get you all ready to list and then spring that $0.99 crap on us in fine print?

I figured it was about time for a FLD. And then they go an ruin it.

Who seriously wants to list anyting at Yahoo for $.99? That strategy may work at eBay, but it's suicide to even think about it on Yahoo. Unless of course your item isn't worth $.99, in which case you won't sell it anyway.

I really am starting to believe Yahoo doesn't have a clue. WHY could they just have a regular "general" FLD?

The announcement board says:

Yahoo! Auctions is pleased to announce a free listing day on Monday, February 2. All auctions submitted between 12:01 a.m. PT and 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday will not be subject to listing fees (other fees still apply).

hmmm... The same fine print on the website newsletter page says:

"(Please note: Transaction fees on successful auctions and special promotional fees for featured listings, gift icons, etc. still apply during this promotion.) "

While the email they sent out is what Ace originally posted.

I'm guessing some idiot didn't proofread that email before they sent out to millions of people. Wonder if he'll have a job on Monday.

It appears that it really is free, but I wonder how many people will be turned off by this mistake?

Be careful not to pre-list though. Yahoo's system is different from Ebay's system. If you pre-list at Yahoo, you are charged at the time of submission, not the start time like at ebay.

One also has to wonder if the doofus added the 99 cent part to throw us off again. It is not listed that way on the web site. He has a history of posting bogus info in the past.

Uh no, that would have been an imposter that tried pulling that on the ebay board (wonder who would have tried to set him up like that?)

My e-mail stated the same thing.

Stonecold - No, the first post by Ace was an exact cut and paste from Yahoos auction newsletter. I got one just like it. Yahoo really goofed it big this time, not Ace.

But you are also right that it does NOT say that one the website. But then again, they can correct a website, but it's too late to fix the email once it's been sent.

Then I stand corrected. I don't do the news letters. I already get to much junk mail.

Still tough to take the word of a spewer though.

They are starting to show off some of their free auction tools. I really think they could compete if they would slap a yahoo auction ad on the front page at all times.

Since I refuse to do the eBay salute and click mein heels, I am looking for another auction site to post on. Yahoo did not cut the mustard. I am not about to go through their Yahoo wallet rigamaroll and I do not want to limit my bidders to those anal enough to go along with Yahoo's Barbra Streisand.
Parklane keeps looking for an honest and judicious auction 'venue'.

Whatever the minky stonecold posted shows what an idiot he is. He calls people auctiondofus but he is the biggest idiot wandering the plains of Minnesota.

Blah Blah Blah doofus.

Something just occured to me. Does anyone think that Yahoo is doing the FLD on Monday in conjunction with Ebays fee hikes?

That's an interesting thought.

I figured we'd see a FLD sometime in January. But then they wait until the VERY DAY that eBay fees go up. And when have they EVER done a FLD on a Monday before?

I seriously doubt that's a coincidence.

That page that blairwitch pointed to is new also. It makes a big show of all the things Yahoo has for FREE that eBay doesn't.

I see they are revamping their "Premium Seller" version of Powersellers as well. I cannot imagine actually having $5000 a quarter in completed Yahoo sales though. That number seems impossibly high for Yahoo Auctions.

Yahoo really does have the better system, in almost every way if only they had the buyers. I would switch for the auto-extension feature ALONE if they just had more sell-through.

As you said, eBay is raising fees. It's not by all that much, but it might be the biggest opportunity Yahoo is going to get.

StoneCold is a dummy! StoneCold is a doofus!

Here's todays AuctionBytes newsletter ( it's gotta be 99 cent items? )

Yahoo Auctions Holds Free Listing Day, Revamps Sellers Program
By Ina Steiner
AuctionBytes.com
January 30, 2004

Yahoo Auctions is holding a Free Listing Day on Monday, February 2,
for items with a starting bid of 99 cents and no reserve price.
Commissions and fees for optional features will still apply.

Yahoo Auctions offer features such as Minimum Bidder Rating (the
seller can determine whether users are required to achieve a specific
rating before they can bid on their auctions); Auto-Extension (an
option to continue their auctions as long as bidding continues); and
Allow Early Close (sellers can choose to close their auctions early if
they're satisfied with the current bid price and wish to sell the item
to the current winning bidder).
http://auctions.yahoo.com/phtml/auc/us/promo/extras.html

Yahoo also said it was revamping its Premium Sellers Program, which
will launch in February.

Looks like Ina Steiner got the same email that I did. Now she's wrong too.

Gotta love those Internet journalists. They are sooo good at researching their stories

I really think that correcting this error would merit a second mailing from Yahoo. They've really messed up this time.

Now Auctionbytes has a correction that says it *IS* free.

I wonder if Auctiobytes gets their information from this board?

And Ina looks so brainy in those nerdish glasses she sports?

I'm ready either way. The last FLD was for 99 cent items and I put high s/h fees on the low priced items. It didn't matter much as almost nothing sold anyway.

I like Blair's suggestion that Yahoo Auctions makes all auction listing fees free for a month or two to get the buyers/sellers back to the site. They could at least make it free for sellers offering PayDirect as a payment option.

Now we know why the auctiondoofus is so wrong most of the time. He is constantly getting his info second hand. How about checking out the info for real some time. Of course, what can you expect from a bidville reject.

Just checked the yahoo site and it NOW says
"01/29/04 Free Listing Day is Monday, February 2
Yahoo! Auctions is pleased to announce a free listing day on Monday, February 2. All auctions (not only those starting with 99 cents!) submitted between 12:01 a.m. PT and 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday will not be subject to listing fees (other fees still apply). "

So its any auction SUBMITTED between those times. Looks like I can use vendio to get everything ready but can't submit them until AFTER 12:01AM PT which is 3:01AM EST - probably pays to just get up early Tuesday AM and submit it all then.

Good luck everyone.

1) I think Ina's kinda cute. Even with the glasses.

2) But I see her picture isn't on the article since Ace's last comment. I think she does read this board

3) Hi Ina. If you're here, read line #1 again

I think she's cute too. But then again I have a librarian fantasy that runs wild all the time. I apologised on the 'Other Auctions' forum for the nerdy glasses remark. I'm certain that she checks in to these boards daily.
We love ya Ina and AuctionBytes!
