This just in...
--------------------------------------

New Fees Effective June 1, 2004

This notice is to inform you of important fee changes to your PayDirect Professional Account.

Effective June 1, 2004, the Standard Pricing rate for receiving money will decrease from 2.5% plus $0.30 per transaction, to 2.4% plus $0.30 per transaction. The Preferred Pricing rate will remain at 2.2% plus $0.30 per transaction.

In addition, effective June 1, 2004, we will deduct a nominal monthly service fee of $5.00 to cover maintenance costs on your account. If your monthly balance is $5.00 or more, we will automatically deduct this fee from your account. If your balance is less than $5.00, we will deduct this fee from your linked and verified bank account. If your balance is less than $5.00 and you do not have a verified bank account linked to your PayDirect account, we will charge this fee to your linked credit card.

These changes are effective June 1, 2004, and will not apply to closed accounts.

Thank you for using Yahoo! PayDirect.

--------------------------------------

Since I haven't made five whole dollars from Paydirect in months, I'm not real thrilled with a $5 monthly fee. How does one go about canelling a Paydirect account?

Never mind. It's right there on the Account Overview page.

Buh-bye Paydirect!

That was a truly stupid move on their part.

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Be sure to delete any bank accounts/credit cards you have listed with them BEFORE canceling your account. BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!

What a stupid stunt. Yahoo could have been a viable alternative to the BAY. What are they thinking????

Where is a viable alternative to the Bay? It seems as though not many of them give a damn about the customer, seller or buyer!!!

exexec: Crap--- I didn't think of that beforehand. Hopefully it won't be a problem!

I bet they are not making much money on the service. This may be their way of shutting paydirect down.

Kind of glad I kept my paydirect account a personal account and not a business account.

I am one of Yahoo's biggest supporters and yet must admit, this is one very stupid move. What on earth are they thinking? This will clearly hurt the Yahoo auctions site. I hope not as it is so easy to use, but they are clearly on a fine line between success and total collapse. This could be the straw.....

Yes, I would assume this is their way of practically closing the site. I guess they only want to deal with very high volume customers at this point.

I'd expect to see a lot more PayPal banners at Y! Auctions.

I have to wonder if this is also intended in some way to make a Yahoo Store more attractive to certain sellers. Some high volume sellers on Y! Auctions apparently listed so much on Y! A because they could use Y! PD for payments which (counting auction fees plus paydirect fees) was apparently cheaper than listing certain items in their Y! Store, and paying their existing merchant account fees.

Has anyone been able to get on the PayDirect site? I've been trying since the 7th. I haven't received any response to emails either.

I had no problem getting in to close out my account on the 12th. I have to wonder, maybe it's everyone trying to close their account that causing the traffic spike?

I am seeing a lot of print ads for HSBC lately (the bank behind Y! PD) - maybe these new fees are to pay for all their expensive magazine ads?
