Well after many years, after the destruction of their auction website that used to have millions of listings, and after ignoring the opinions/facts of its users, Yahoo auctions has finally pulled their head out of their ass and will offer free listings again for an undetermined amount of time.

The big questions are: Will anyone care and will the sellers and buyers come back?

Good luck to all that venture there.

PS. I was once a big supporter of Yahoo auctions before they closed my account during the "purge" for no valid reason shortly after they started charging their fees. Had 100% feedback and a 1000+ rating. Still pissed over that.

Looks as if Yahoo has realized that their auction site has died. But it still appears that they still don't get it. No one was looking for a free lunch. The change really should have been free listings with a FVF. One has to wonder how the auction model will stay open without collecting any types of fees?

Or are they going to move that way once they have re-built a selling base?

I guess time will tell.

Yahoo Auctions will make money on premium services, such as featured items etc, as well as banner ads.

Same reason Yahoo offers their other free services: email, games, groups, etc

I just figured out what happened. I was wondering why I had all kinds of out going links in my listings. This goes back to before free listings. That is where Yahoo is making the money. They are using us our listings as a search engine for other companies to place links in. This is an attempt to link customers past our listings and to the other web sites. Then Yahoo is receiving money back for every link clicked. This is a bitter sweet thing for us sellers. Yes the listings are free, but they all will have links taking customers away from our listings. I would estimate that sales will not be very good compared to the old Yahoo. But free is free. I guess we will see.

I will try them again,I don't have anything to lose. E-Bay can be pricey and there is way to much competition in many areas.

Yahoo should be good to keep those items that simply didn't sell on ebay right away. At least they will be online somewhere.

Well well well.........I stay away from the internet a few months, and look what has happened... I always figured they would go back and fix the auction site. I think it will come back in time......it means almost certain death to sites like bidville. If they play their cards right(pardon the pun) they could take a chunk out of ebays seller base which is getting smaller and smaller from the fee increases. This could get interesting....

If the short term is any indication, it is far too little, far too late. I have had only one sale since the Free listings have started, and that was a carry over from the pay listings.
