Hello all! Once again, our sellers' group is providing a forum for sellers to tell the Yahoo! Auctions staff what THEY could do to attract more sellers to Yahoo! Auctions and increase their success selling there. Many of the suggestions provided in our effort last year have been implemented by Yahoo! This year we hope to make more progress.

My own "Short List" follows:

*******************************************************************************************

(1.) First and foremost - provide a stable auction site that functions all the time!

(2.) Make Yahoo! Auctions easier for sellers to try and have early success by:
(A.) Providing a way to import their feedback from eBay and other selling venues.
(B.) Providing a way to easily import their auctions from eBay and other venues.
(C.) Expanding the Category List.
(D.) Continue to improve the Auction Search feature.
(E.) Providing an easy to use and functioning "Auction Booths" set-up.

(3.) Make Yahoo! Auctions more attractive for buyers by:
(A.) Providing an option to see MORE than 15 items at a time when browsing.
(B.) Make it easier for buyers to view information about the sellers.
(C.) More aggressively fight fraud, particularly in the electronics area.
(D.) Again, continue to improve the Auction Search feature.
(E.) And, again, expand the Category List.

*******************************************************************************************

Please add YOUR wish list, or YOUR comments about mine, to the discussion.

Also, please send your own "wish list" to the Yahoo! Auctions feedback box as well.

That is located here:

Yahoo! Auctions Feedback Box

Strength in numbers of replies help! To quote a reply from a Yahoo! tech: "And keep using that feedback box! It helps us to convince
management, especially when a lot of people send the same suggestion! "

I've made TWO sales there in nearly three months, and so far, they have BOTH been NPBs.

And I may as well point out that Yahoo hasn't changed anything since the last time you posted this question.

That's simply not true, replaymedia!

Examples of improvements that our group has been successful in getting at Yahoo! Auctions are:

1.Many New Categories
2.A Systems Announcement Board
3.The Inclusion of Buyer Information(zip code and/or country of origin) in the EOA e-mails coming from Yahoo!
4.The Expansion of the Title to 55 characters
5.Inclusion of the "Hit Counts" on Auctions on the "My Auctions" page.(currently in Beta)

We DID scale back our efforts in October to try to get through the holiday season "glitch-free", but we are now back asking sellers for their suggestions.

How do ANY of those things get more buyers?

The 55 characters is nice, but not if no one is watching.

Categories? I know *I* don't look at categories while shopping. I suspect most others don't either.

That other stuff is invisible to the buyers and useless to me.

*ALL* I want is more traffic and buyers. Leave the software tweaks for when they are needed!

My suggestion? Put a big honking link on the top of the main page and spend millions on advertising.

Well, AT LEAST you had a suggestion this time, instead of just "railing" against a group effort that IS trying to make a difference for sellers at Yahoo! Auctions!

Carry on!

Yahoo needs to promote their auctions better on their homepage.

Yahoo shopping is doing great.
Why not open a Yahoo shop for 40 dollars a month?

What Does Yahoo! Auctions Need To do?

Reduce the number of outside links to one per auction page. I understand Yahoo using the links for income, however the problem is having 10 or more outside links selling the same thing you have on auction. This causes potential bidders to look else where for the item and in most cases, cannot find your item again once they leave. Or they simply find the better deal away from Yahoo because of the links, where otherwise they would have simply bid on your item instead.

Here is an example. One item with 8 different adds trying to get your potential bidder away from your item to purchase theirs.

Here is an example of 15 different adds for potential bidders to go to instead of bidding on your items. In turn, they buy from those adds and not our auctions.

YOU SAID IT IN ONE SENTENCE -

"MAKE YAHOO AUCTIONS PROMINENT ON THE MAIN YAHOO SEARCH PAGE. PROMOTE, PROMOTE, AND PROMOTE YAHOO AUCTIONS ON THE YAHOO SEARCH PAGE."

It seems like a very simple idea which any idiot would think of if they really cared to increase sales on their Yahoo Auctions.

I also agree that foreign links on an ad page are not only distracting, but confuse the buyer.

I had really hoped, with the change to “free” that Yahoo would have learned how to truly run and auction and returned to a similar format such as it had 3 years ago.

For months, I have run 44 ads, sold 3 items in the middle of the summer, and since then nothing. I run the same ads and the merchandize at the same price as I do eBay, all are new, no junk, but NOTHING sells on Yahoo.

I am about to decide to quit.

Come on - if Yahoo seriously gave a damn about their auctions, they wqould not be hiding the link. Why should anyone take them seriously when they show no evidence of taking themselves seriously.

Yahoo needs to advertise their auction site. No question about it because you never see them advertise anyplace on the Internet, TV, magazines, etc.

They just recently finished a nice upgrade to the site, but unfortunately, this upgrade crashed with Tias.com and you can no longer upload auctions to Yahoo. Tias just made an announcement that they have dropped Yahoo Auctions and are only keeping Ebay. Nice, huh?

Yahoo has no customer service either. I wish I was President of that company, I'd be doing my best to give Ebay some competition...
