I just wanted to send my sympathy and prayers to all in the US .
We in the UK are horrified and sickened by this cowardly act. It has dominated the news all day and I have watched it unfolding with horror and in tears.
This is a world problem and I know I am not alone here in wishing there was something we can do.
You all have our support and sympathy and I sincerely hope these disgusting excuses for human beings are caught and exterminated.
There is an eerie silence over London as no commercial flights are allowed over the city at the moment.
I can't imagine what you are all feeling but just wanted to let you know you are not alone in this dark hour.

Renate, thank you! It's reassuring to know that the whole world doesn't hate America. This is truly a dark time for everyone, not just those of us in the US.

WHITE HORSE, Yukon Territory -- A Korean Airlines 747 believed to have been hijacked has been forced to land by U.S. and Canadian military forces in White Horse, Yukon Territory.
The plane, with an estimated 230 passengers, was destined for Alaska, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.
The airport was in lockdown.

That was very generous of you, considering the deafening lack of outcry in the US against the IRA terrorist bombings in your country. Thank you.

Thanks Rainy Bear and Toke.
Yes we have had our share of terrorist activity in the UK but never anything on this scale.
Terrorists of whatever nationality are cowards and wage war on the innocent. As I said, this is a world problem, not least because we in the UK are seen as America's allies(not to mention we are hated in our own right) and we could easily be next. In fact as I was watching the news today I was expecting to hear of something happening here.
This is the scariest thing that has happend in my lifetime and I am terrified at what will happen as a consequence.
The people that did this are truly evil.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

My love and thoughts go out to all Americans, this is a terrible disgusting act.
We here in Australia have woken up to this news, it is unbelievable. I am not sure what to say to you all, but I pray that these people are stopped and I would like to say that you have my heartfelt sympathy and love. I have made many friends in the US some who are in NY, I just pray that these people are alright.

renatelindsay - Thank you for your kind thoughts and concern! There are no 2 countries "closer" separated by an ocean.
I only hope that all of our allies will support the US in ridding the world of these killers.
However, I have a sinking feeling that we won't catch them and we may have little support. But something's gotta give.

Canadian news is saying that all of our airports on closed for flights and are on standby to accept diverted US planes. All elective surgery has been cancelled and our hospitals are readying themselves for transfers from the US. Canadians here are shocked. I just got back from the market and you could hear a pin drop. Everyone was looking at each other and shaking their heads. The reports coming from Canada say that the US is pretty sure Osama Bin Laden is the culprit.......

One of the other buildings that make up the World trade Center complex [Bulding #7] has just collapsed. It was severely damaged by the collapse of the towers. 47 stories.

Thank you Zoomin for letting us know about Rocker, I was so relieved to hear that Jan is okay. I had just emailed her to make sure that all is well with her, but I thought that the email may not go through, I will wait for her reply. Thanks once again, I was so worried about her.
My thoughts are still with you all. Take care.

I dont think the USA would do this, this fast. Especially when we are still trying to save our own. THen again, I could be wrong, but gut instinct says it isnt us.

Regarding the pictures of the Palestinians dancing in the streets--I at least take comfort that they seem to be showing the same small group of people over and over, so it's probably not very widespread.
What I don't understand is this--when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, they pretty much did it to start a war. There was no doubt about who did it, or why. Now, someone has bombed our buildings causing the death of thousands of people, but nobody's coming forward to say they did it. If they were mad enough at us to do what they did, why didn't they just fly over with a bomb and nuke NY or Washington instead of only a couple of buildings? What was the point? And--you'd think they'd certainly be proud of themselves and would come quickly forward to brag that they did it. It just doesn't add up--but then I guess cowardice never does.

There's a slightly different level of sophistication and weapons development involved in having some guys with knives hijack some planes vs. acquiring and detonating a nuke, I suspect.

I think that Figmente's thoughts are correct, it is a world wide thing, we are all involved in this to a certain extent. Many other nationalities were involved and indeed our own Prime Minister is now stranded in Washington. Australia has cancelled all other programs on all channels and all we are seeing and hearing today is about this horrible act of terrorism. It has affected most of the world.
Toke you can still feel like you want to avenge this terrible thing, we all feel like that, and I think you will find that most of our free world countries will be behind the US and give whatever support is needed.

now, someone has bombed our buildings.....but nobody's coming forward to say they did it.
Here's someone who threatened to do it back it June.

A videotape emerged last week, which showed bin Laden telling his supporters: "It's time to penetrate America and Israel and hit them where it hurts most." The Taleban authorities claimed that it was a fake.
and today http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,3-2001314514,00.html
I must share I was watching CNN a few minutes ago and they showed our House of Reps and our Senators, making a couple of short statements then taking a moment for silence/prayer and then they broke out singing the "God Bless America" song. It gave me chills.

They hijacked the planes with knives. Go figure...
I've always wondered why planes don't have security guards like banks. They seem to be a high priorty target for terrorists. In this case plain clothed security officers possibly could have made a difference.
I wonder what happend on the plain that crashed in PA?
Edited to add: I love NY and my heart goes out to the victims there.

Judging from the eyewitness accounts, I think the pilot of that plane died a hero. I could be wrong but from what the locals said it banked one way, then the other, then down nose first. I think that pilot wrestled for control ... and took it down between the two towns.
