Not if you're in a public affairs position. Those people never have evacuated.

Ve must keep up appearances. The ones with party connections get the helicopter ride out of town. The spokesman stands there and says all is well even if the air is glowing blue.

Hmmm....except for the fact we have winter, you have described my little village in Ohio. Far enough from the city/town, but close enough to go if you really want to see a mall or good restaurant. Lots of fishing holes. You can buy a small yard, or a big one. Some have their own ponds or little lakes with ducks. Housing is cheap. A lot of big new homes are being built on big pieces of land, no doubt, because it's cheaper here than other places. We have all new schools. We are near universities/colleges. There are also some private schools around. You can have close neighbors or be as secluded as you want.

I think people are working in the city for better pay, but are moving here for the quieter home life and lower costs.
I see a lot of young families and retirees.
Tornadoes always seem to go around us. Someone told me it had to do with the elevated land we are on. I really don't know about that at all. I thought we are more flat.
I ramble...anyway, you are looking for a place with no winter. Good luck.

Which part of Ohio would that be? And is it true that southern Ohio is more, you know, Southern? I've only been around Lima. Haven't seen OH really. Tell me more!

I grew up in Akron about 30 miles South of Cleveland. It was nice but limited. Not the sort of place where you can buy or do anything you want like in the big city. If you start a business there are just so many potential customers and you run up against a wall and either serve a big geographic area or stay small. Yet houses are cheap and it is big enough the medical care is there. If you live in a small town nearby like Wadsworth you have the small town atmosphere with the hospitals and all near enough. There are a lot more Bible oriented people. You see a zillion busses running all over town Sunday taking the kids and old ladies to church. It is the native spawning grounds of the TV preacher. You can do day trips to Cleveland or South and East into Amish country and go for antiques and eat in an amish restaurant. The flea market at Hartville is a blast. Southern Ohio is different.
Rolling hills. Less farming and more old mill towns on the rivers with things like glass works - pottery - and brick making. Much less populated.

My area is NE Ohio. It's not southern. A few minutes to Amish towns. In fact they are seen frequently in the stores.

Most people I've talked to moved here to be away from the cities. They are willing to drive farther to work, my husband drives 1 hour. You are allowed to build homes or put modulars on your property.

You can't really start a business here because the village tries to keep out anything but Mom/Pop stores. They are afraid it will ruin the atmosphere. We have seen a lot of little businesses come & go after 2 years. We pay separately for garbage collection and quarterly taxes. But after checking around, I found out our taxes are lower than many other areas. You give up big-city conveniences, but I think it's a good trade.

We are near a huge 6 Flags park that spans the lake. Your son would love that. Get a season-family pass.

We could have had access to the turnpike which would have cut my husband's driving time to 15 minutes, but they were afraid we'd be over-run with traffic, etc. Actually, that did happen in the little town I grew up in.

In short, it is a good place to live. If you need a place to set up a shop, it might not survive unless you also sold on the internet. I wish we had a clothing store here.
