Wow, so much for your enlightening comments... but then I knew you really didn't have anything to bring to the table...except maybe another "It's all America's fault" we are keeping the Mexicans impovershied and uneducated...not the Mexican governemtents fault at all...

But I guess American's like yourself are going to live there and not take advantage of the fact that your housemaid might make $100/week...

While I am going to set up a business, just like every other time I have employed people in Mexico they will be paid more on scale with American wages than Mexican. I am going there for proximity to indiginous products and an enjoyment of the country and culture, not to take advantage of a bad situation.

Hang it up 12, neo can not even begin to comprehend what you are saying, and doesn't really have a firm grasp on what she says herself.

But one good thing, there are a few that posted that they are going to live in another country. I only hope they surrender their passport when they get there and renounce their citizenship.

That's right reamond... no one can comprehend the complexity of Twelvepole's posts - not even neon.

Naw Reamond, I believe neonmania... maybe if more moved there that had that attitude those people could start enjoying a standard of living there northern neighbors enjoy.

I am glad you think that is a disparaging remark there profe... so you think it is ok to sneak across the border illegally? I for one don't have any compassion for it...

I do not think it is ok to sneak across the border illegally. My comment was directed at YOU, asking if you had considered asking why someone would choose to live in another country, without making a disparaging remark, thereby making the discussion less confrontational and perhaps more fruitful, that's all.You have, in very predictable fashion, failed to address that issue. I thought you might like to qualify your remarks about Mexicans, but instead, you enlarge upon them with this hateful tripe:

No I meant what I said... ALL, not just the slime that crawls across the border illegally...The majority of Mexicans barely have 6th grade education.

The above statement should be all anyone here needs to see that you are not only profoundly ignorant of our nearest neighbor, but that you are the quintessence of a xenophobe, a bigot of the first magnitude. As a result, any opinions you have to offer regarding anyone of a different race, country or culture should be immediately suspect. Here's a little something, a gift for you I pulled out of my souvenirs of failed hate-mongers box. You can print it out and make your own button to wear to your next meeting.

I already have that button, but thanks anyway... how did you know I collected politcal memoribilia?

I don't care why someone would want to live in another country... I only care about those that crawl their way illegally into mine.

Profe51 you call me a bigot because of my thoughts on Mexico, yet you offer nothing up to prove me wrong...

You just can't stand it because you cannot make a good case of why Estrada should not be confirmed... only your bigotry to Hispanics that have made something of themselves.

neomania, while that is noble of you to pay the people of Mexico the same wages of Americans, there isn't a whole lot of people like you that do that. I know quite a few people in El Paso, and though they do treat them very well, they don't usually pay the same wages of Americans.

There are so many Americans that live in border towns like that, that do hire Mexicans as maids, gardeners and what have you. These Americans usually have money. A lot of them give them places to live, like a mother in law apt. on their property, and these Mexicans do seem happy.

I guess if they were not, they wouldn't cross over illegally and take these positions? I don't know

twelve

about a third of the mexican economy is based on the money sent back to the country.

it is not the american government that keeps the mexicans down. it is there own government(s) (the PRI and PAN party) that do it, for that financial reason.

all the mexican government does is spread the "its the greedy greengos" sentiment to spread the blame.

BTW the US VIRGIN ISLANDS good fishing and your rights are still enforced.

::I guess if they were not, they wouldn't cross over illegally and take these positions? I don't know ::

Near. Many of the imiigrants living in the US today are sending huge chunks of they income home to support their families. After the 94 devaluation of the peso many busineses closed. Incomes suddenly became worth half of what they formerly were. Add drought conditions that have badly beaten the agricultural community and the closure of many of the maquiladoras after 9/11 and the drop in the American economy which no longer supported the manufacturing needs and suddenly you have entire towns with no visable form of income. The young people from the areas are forced to move into more populous areas or across the country in order to find work and make money to send home to feed those left behind. Current projections state that at it's current rate of growth, Tijuana and the Baja area will basically be out of water in the next five years. It is one of the fastest growing communities in the wolrd today because of immigration from central Mexico into what appears to be on TV as a prosperous area. Communities pop up almost overnight and the area is growing so fast that public utilities cannot keep up. Sewage, waste, electrical services can take months to get into an area. The problems in Mexico are overwhelming, they were created over decades of corruption and cannot be solved overnight. In the meantime, the people are doing all that they can to take care of themselves and their families.

What I find amazing is that many of the people that scream and rant about illegal immigration are the same that rant against those that rely on welfare and wait for others to take care of them. While there definately are exceptions to the rule, the majority of immigrants have taken matters into their own hands and risked everything for the possibility to be able to build a life for themselves and for those back home.

Much of that happiness you see is self respect, hard earned and well deserved.

Never thought this would turn into a Mexico bashing thread.

Actually it hasn't but many have taken valid arguments and turned them into such.

I've only been to three countries myself. Canada, Mexico and my home country the USA.

Canada is fun for a few days. French Canada is really beginning to suck (has for several years now). All and all the French Canadians are not a friendly people.

Mexico was a lot of fun too but I wouldn't want to live there. The people are great but illiteracy and their corrupt governments have and will keep them down for a long time. I was hoping Fox would be the new leader, taking Mexico into the 21st century.

Prof, A cruel stab at Wallace. I should post a PIC of the Frito Bandito.

Wallace fought for what he believed in. With a passion. He was wrong and said so later in his life. Just like you, Helen and the rest are wrong about why were in this war.

Does anyone in this thread hire illegals?

BTW I got he answers I thought I'd get. Over all this is the greatest Country in the world not just today but ever.

On another thought. I'm a little sick of all the Historical quotes and "being doomed to repeat it." We don't have chariots today so most of this historical crap is moot. It's a brave new world. It's what WE make it.

Amen,
Glad no one picked France,
Reverend Colin
