Morning to all - I was reading this article this morning and since it spoke directly to the issues being brought up here....thought I'd share it. It was interesting to me and made me question IF this might not be the WHY of Pat Robertson taking the position that he did. [Takes the issue off the religious aspect and puts it into the realm of National Security].

The article is titled: Foggy Bottom's Friends. Why is the State Department so cozy with the Saudis? I found it to be a very interesting read.

Mr. Mowbray is author of "Dangerous Diplomacy: How the State Department Threatens American Security" (Regnery, 2003), from which this article is adapted.

editing to add the part in the story where eight plane loads of Saudi's came for a visit with two suspected terrorists aboard and one who was on our 'wanted' list.
And how the 'uncomfortable' situation was handled.

Twelve, I think you are the one that needs to work on reading comprehension. My statement here has been that if any well known liberal (i.e. Michael Moore) had stated that what really needed to be done was that someone needed to take a small nuke and detonate it in Foggy Bottom you would be raking them over the coal for irreponsible statements and anti americanism. When an established conservative does it your response is "so what".

If it's really "common" sense, why do so few people actually have it?

Linda - I find it interesting that in that article, the state department is indicted however when you failered to point out where the delegation was going. Seems that the author is able to completely dismiss the possibility of White House involvement in the issue without even a glacing mention. It seems incredible to me that these people can be on the way to visit the Bush homeh and there is nary a single mention of the possibility that word came down from the White Houe to deal with the situation.

Personally, that omission as well as the admission that the writer has no clue what the actual result of his scathing scandal revolation taints the entire article.

fenix - To me I think this article does a GREAT job of bringing up the issue of their personal $$ interests/benefits from the Saudi's vs our National security interests.
