Miscreant, I'm thinking you mistook a 3 volley salute of 7 riflemen at your father's funeral for a 21 gun salute. My dad had one of those at his funeral also. He too was a decorated Lt. Colonel. You made an honest and very common mistake.I would think some of the chest beaters who pointed out your error above, thereby proving that they know all about military honors, might have informed you that a 21 gun salute is performed with cannon, not small arms, but maybe they just didn't know.

Profe51,
There were 3 volleys but I was not paying too much attention to what the military was doing. It was and is the worst day of my life.

My cousin was in the honor guard and he never broke down although tears did stream down his face. I could hear people behind me asking "Why is that soldier crying?"

My Dad and others did have a word for the chest beaters.

Well apparently President Bush was not in violation of any of the UCMJ regulations. He was never charged, was he?

Prove my family history to you, why? You haven't earned the Honor.

I just read a good quote on this topic by a good guy who used to post here...gaffan.

"The implication made by several folks in this thread that those without military experience are somehow incapable of having a valid perspective on this topic is absurd. By that standard, our current Commander in Chief (a civilian position, I note in passing) should disqualify himself. Unless you count keeping the skies of Texas free of the fearsome Mexican Air Force for two years as military experience. The Founding Dads (who with a couple glaring exceptions seemed to have some pretty good ideas) didn't make military service a requirement for First Amendment coverage, or for being elected to any federal office, including President. Not that this guy was, anyway."

No, Linda

Wrong again. The quote was posted on this board. It's a very good one and applies to the feeling among your neo buds about military service.

BTW....

well...IF that's from this chat board, rather than his own chat board, then it's REALLY old 'cause he hasn't posted here in FOREVER.... surprises me you didn't post the link.
-------------

But what's really funny is this same argument is being used in the reverse. As I remember a discussion that took place here, it was one group that was arguing against another group about the requirement of having to served in order to be elected president of the US....

Is that the old thread you took this from?

If only the ones who have had personal military experience are capable of understanding what you have described I don't understand why you post it to a public board knowing few will fit your required experience.
You seem to fixate on the exclusion of others instead of finding areas where you can speak of something of benefit. I was never physically fit to serve in the military but I saw the way it effected my father and uncles to go through the service in WWII. Yet I see wifes and sons have no credit with you to have the ability to observe with their own senses what that did even though we had to suffer the effects of it on the family. You give us no credit at all. But that's not surprising given the usual lack of civility on these boards.
Perhaps it is that atmosphere that makes you adapt suchan in your face attitude to tell us we are unworthy and can have no opinion at the onset.
If that close the ranks - civilians are all worthless trash attitude came about from your service then I doubt you had had the proper motives when you rendered it.

So is everybody in Idaho's favorite Republican, Timothy McVeigh. In fact , he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and the Bronze Star for his service. A real patriot....

Honour where Honour is due!

Bear claims to respect x-servicemen, but obviously NOT when they speak the truth!

Somehow he still has room in his heart for cowards and liars like the bulk of the supposed ‘hawks’.

What an insult to hawks, when these are actually the men who have proven to be most likely to ‘fly away’ when called to guard the nest!
Not only that; but have also proven to be the ‘men’(loosely speaking)
most likely to bring nits and pests into the nest; eg. giving WOMD to Saddam and money to Ossama.

Bear supports nit-spreading spineless hawks, and doesn't have the honour to admit it.

Reminds me of the old joke;
My father was decorated for injuries during WWII;
Omitted Facts: (Fell drunk from the guard tower in Auschwitz.)

Good on you miscreant.
IF I were a military man, I would salute you for your service to your nation along with your integrity.
I would have at a guess that you and your father are the type of men that others wanted to have fight along side with: Fighting Men With Integrity And Honour;
It must run in the family!!

Can you imagine sharing a trench with a Bush? (Assuming you could get him there)

Bush dismisses report he skipped Air National Guard service

Responding to the Globe's report that his Alabama base commander had no recollection of Bush ever showing for drills, the governor said "I pulled duty in Alabama and I read the comments and the guy said he didn't remember me. That's 27 years ago, but I remember being there."

Asked about his Air National Guard attendance record, Bush told reporters it was "spotty attendance but I did the duty necessary... I did the time that was required in the Guard."

Bush acknowledged that he was granted special permission to fulfill part of his Guard service in Alabama and that he was also given an early release to attend Harvard Business School, but denied that it was due to any favoritism because of his father's prominence.

I suppose he will give the 28 soldiers who have recently gone AWOL some special consideration also...just dismiss it as "spotty attendance"?

Well Bear where is the proof of your family serving in every battle, in every country, and the Alamo? I have seen some one else make the same ridiculous statement.

By the way, the men were not ordered to leave their post, they were granted permission to seek shelter. I think it's great they stuck to their post but why do you righties always try to bask in the reflected glory of others? Why change permission to order other than to make it more dramatic for your own reflected glory?

And you accuse us of 'broad brush' statements? lol

It's not just righties that feel, show and speak out about their admiration for those who continue to honor, and give value to, traditions we appreciate. You appear to think there are no 'lefties' that appreciate traditions. If that is correct, I don't agree.

Miscreant as usual you lack of reading comprehension is evident. I never said "in every country". I said in every war the U.S. has been involved in.

If you were more computer literate and less anal retentive you could figure out my name & search for American participants that died at the Alamo.
