Alright already. The man is dead, as in he is no longer living.

Let it all rest, and let him rest in peace.

God Reamond, what a dumbsh8t article that is, esp right after the man dies.

Respect for the deceased and all that.

Near, I don't understand why we can't talk about the Presidential part of his life? Nobody here has said he was a jerk or other personal comments, just opinions about his job. I don't find that disrepectful at all.

I understand, cheryl, lefties especially those who lean towards socialism wouldn't have like Reagan. Many who were too young when he was president can still read. He will go down in history as one of our greatest presidents....IF only for the end of the Cold War. THAT was very important to people from my generation. The spread of Communism was a REAL threat in those days. If the dems had been in charge....things would have turned out much differently....and NOT in our nations best interests.

-------------

And not to forget my favorite ex-president - even he had something to say about Reagan:

At home, Democratic leaders had only praise. [/i]Former President Bill Clinton said, "Hillary and I will always remember President Ronald Reagan for the way he personified the indomitable optimism of the American people, and for keeping America at the forefront of the fight for freedom for people everywhere[/i]."
Other Democrats focused on Reagan's character and stature among politicians of his era.

Yeah, you might have gotten the truth that the USSR was so totally bankrupt that the "cold war" was long gone before Reagan ever got in. But it's best to live in fear and believing there are hoards of bad people out there that the government's going to protect us from (for a price).

Tributes continue for Ronald Reagan
Last Updated Mon, 07 Jun 2004 14:29:06
NORMANDY -

World leaders and former political rivals continued to pay tribute to former U.S. president Ronald Reagan Sunday, crediting him for his role in ending the Cold War.

Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev said he was distraught to learn of Reagan's death. "Reagan was a statesman who, despite all disagreements that existed between our countries at the time, displayed foresight and determination to meet our proposals halfway and change our relations for the better, stop the nuclear race, start scrapping nuclear weapons, and arrange normal relations between our countries," Gorbachev said in a statement.

FROM JUNE 5, 2004: Former U.S. president Ronald Reagan dead
"Reagan bolstered the U.S. military might to ruin the Soviet economy, and he achieved his goal," said Gennady Gerasimov, who was the top spokesman for the Soviet Foreign Ministry during the 1980s.

At the D-Day ceremonies in Normandy, France, U.S. President George W. Bush paid tribute to Reagan during his address. "Twenty summers ago another American president came here to Normandy to pay tribute to the men of D-Day,'' Bush said. "He was a courageous leader himself and a gallant leader in the cause of freedom, and today we honour the memory of Ronald Reagan.''

Prime Minister Paul Martin, speaking to Canadian reporters Sunday in Normandy, said "there's no doubt that the United States would be a very different country if it hadn't been for Ronald Reagan. It may well be that the Cold War would have been very different if it hadn't been for Ronald Reagan."

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder praised Reagan, who challenged Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin Wall in in 1987, for creating the "conditions for change that in the end made the restoration of German unity possible."

Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, seen as Reagan's Conservative counterpart in Europe during the 1980s, said: "Ronald Reagan had a higher claim than any other leader to have won the Cold War for liberty and he did it without a shot being fired."

Former President Jimmy Carter, who lost to Reagan in the 1980 election, said he admired Reagan's communication skills.

"President Reagan was a formidable political campaigner, who provided an inspirational voice to America when our people were searching for a clear message of hope and confidence. He had unshakeable beliefs and was able to express them effectively, both in America and abroad."

At least some democrats respectfully given their tributes to President Reagan. Even a Canadian PM agreed. He must be a conservative???? lol

Linda says, "So you're another leftie that doesn't like hearing/reading the facts - it appears."
Linda, how you could derive that statement from what I said I just don't know...I never disputed any facts. And look who's talking!
After I hit you with the facts about what our government owes us in another thread...you disapppeared...never answered.
And I still haven't found out what it is you like about Bush and other Republicans. You have never stated a positive fact about them and what GOOD they have done for America. And when someone refutes you you disappear. Or become insulting. Can't you discuss without insult and mud-slinging?

Tens of thousands of people standing in line - paying their respect to him and what he accomplished as our President.

More people stand in line to go to football games on a Sunday. BTW the numbers keep getting revised lower on FOX. The rotunda is practically empty all the time. The numbers went from 200,000 to 150,000, and now to 100,000, and soon it will be less than 100,000. The bottom line is that many people could care less and don't hold Reagan in very high esteem.

BTW, most of the people going are going for the same reason people gawk at car accidents. It is just a circus they want to see and has nothing to do with what some think Reagan accomplished.

crowfarm - you disapppeared...never answered. Gee...well excuse me for being busy with my out-of-town company.

And you're incorrect. I have many times stated the policies I agree with this President on...and the one's I haven't agreed with him on. I also have posted a link to answer all the questions put to me on what this President has accomplished. Sorry you missed it. It gets old repeating it over and over and over...just because someone new comes aboard.

LOL reamond - I'm beginning to think YOU read/watch Fox News more than I do - from your posts about what they say. I didn't take those numbers from Fox News....wasn't even aware they had stated them at all....nor revised their numbers.

There were many sites that mentioned tens of thousands paying their respect to the President and his family....even in very uncomfortable weather.

Why helen, how very kind of you to go to all that trouble to pull that thread up. Does this mean YOU are unaware of my position on the many issues? LOL I don't think so....you've been around way to long for that to be true.

And crowfarm mentioned in one of her/his first posts here - which was in the middle of a long thread- that he/she didn't want to be troubled to read through past posts. So if he/she is too busy to find answers to his/her questions then she'll/he'll just have to hang around until the same question comes up for the millionth time.

Linda, You have no scruples about insulting "someone new who comes aboard" or the other posters here over and over and then use the excuse that "it's too old to answer over and over.

Seems fair to me that if we have to listen to your nasty insults over and over that you should at least reciprocate with an answer over and over.

It's so pathetic that you can't explain your comment.

I vowed to stay out of this but "the government doesn't owe anybody anything"??????????????????
THEN WHY do they take 25% of MY PAYCHECK??????????????
What's that for ...RENT?
And the government DOES owe us !!!
It owes us responsibility in the way it runs this country? If they don't owe us anything why are they there? WHY don't they go home ? What are they doing besides collecting a salary?
And WHO ever said they wanted something for nothing????
I've been in the work force for 36 YEARS and never got anything for free from this government. I've worked my butt off and if I want to whine about then getting a 9% pay cut when CEO'S salarys have gone up 60% since the 70's I WILL!
I could go on and on about what this government owes us...like earning the respect of other countries so we can live peacefully without our young people dying because our president is a swaggering puppet of the oil companies and HALIBURTON...but I won't.
And now I must really quit posting ...work,work, work, and have to email my congressman to get him to tell the government to quit using my taxes to broadcast "Tokyo Rush" to our armed forces and the rest of the world.
Bye for now, and I do mean Peace!

Of all the tributes I've read to President Reagan....this is the one I like the most.
Largely because it reminds me so much of the strong convictions of President Bush in dealing with those who currently wish to bring harm to our nation:

While Reagan had undeniable magnetism, what set him apart was that he had the courage to speak the truth and trust the American people. In the 1964 speech that launched his political career, "A Time for Choosing," Reagan never smiled. He told no jokes -- though he did say some amusing things inasmuch as he was talking about "our liberal friends."

In the throes of the Cold War -- still hot in Vietnam -- Reagan forthrightly said liberals refused to acknowledge that the choice was not between "peace and war, only between fight and surrender."

In words that would have come in pretty handy in Spain just a few months ago, he said liberals tell us "if we only avoid any direct confrontation with the enemy, he will forget his evil ways and learn to love us." All who disagree with the "peace" crowd, he said, "are indicted as warmongers."

To this, Reagan said: "Let's set the record straight. There is no argument over the choice between peace and war, but there is only one guaranteed way you can have peace -- and you can have it in the next second -- surrender."

This wasn't sunny old grandpa carrying candy around in his pocket for children. After watching Walter Cronkite's coverage of the Vietnam War in December 1972, Reagan told President Richard Nixon, "under World War II circumstances, the network (CBS) would have been charged with treason."

Reagan quoted "Mr. Democrat himself," Al Smith, for the proposition that the Democratic Party was no longer the party of Jefferson, Jackson and Cleveland, but was now the party of Marx, Lenin and Stalin. (And that was 30 years before they tried to push Hillarycare on us.)

Reagan was a bulldog, completely, implacably right-wing on every issue. He was the right-wing Energizer Bunny. He never quit and he kept beating liberals.

He cut taxes 25 percent across the board his first year in office; he walked away from Gorbachev at Reykjavik; he fired all those air traffic controllers -- and wouldn't let them come back even when they wanted to; he gave speeches about "welfare queens" and polluting trees; he nominated Antonin Scalia and Robert Bork to the Supreme Court; and he enraged grim liberals when he warmed up his radio mike by saying, "My fellow Americans, I'm pleased to tell you today that I've signed legislation that will outlaw Russia forever. We begin bombing in five minutes."

But now they're telling us Reagan was a "pragmatist." Well, not according to him. As he was wrapping up the Republican primaries in 1980 and moderate weenies in the Republican Party were trying to move him to the "center," Reagan said: "No, I'm not moving my positions any.

... I believe the same things that I've been speaking on for years, and I don't see any reason to change."

Thank God he didn't. Because Reagan lived, the world is a better place. - Ann Coulter

LMAO !! They changed the parade route for Reagan's coffin in anticipation of large crowds !!!

No one showed up. The Re-elect Bush Channel (aka FOX NEWS) announcer in NY first said there were no crowds because it was raining, then had to admit that it was actually just a mist, but that there was hardly anyone along the parade route.

I guess the right wing nuts will blame the French.

How pathetic. Michael Reagan, Ron and his first wife's adopted son, at first held his hand over his heart as the flag drapped coffin went by but someone must have told him to salute like John John Kennedy did.

Michael Reagan has never missed an opportunity to ride Ronnie's coattails, even to the graveyard.
