Well folks!
I have seen a lot of posts, "The Million Auction March". My post " Why you need to
join the MAM " and ad nasuime. First off as a Seller on the internet, I have a thing
about having a union, and I am sorry about my post. Looking at the web site, I
thought, wow what a great ides, sellers helping each other, and building other web
sites to compete with ebay, so ebay, and other sites will be open to our needs.

Just a loose canon bunch of folks talking to each other, helping each other, and knowing that if we Had a 1000 lb gorilla controlling us we had to do something to put it on a diet.

Ebay seach is in a major mess. I do not like to give things a way. So when my item was not showing after 3 days under search, I allways pay for the Gallery post, and if you got a bid on an item before the search was refreshed, it will not show. I saw that this item did not show unders search, and emailed prior bidders 15 not SPAM AS MOST SITES , someone complained. My problem. Spam under ebays rules, that were imputed when the Only a dollar march hit. OK I gambled, and lost.

Just being up front, yes I have a venue! For personal gain. Yes!

At the cost of others, no, or yes.

Should we band together, and do what we did for ebay at another site? Yes! Just pick one. Post 20% of your auctions there, and let folks know. So post the site that you want t6o suport here. and lets post some auctions. I will join a MAM org. once that its needed. Due to the fact that we all post on ebay. Its a mute issue. Sorry Toyranch. I think we need an simple alliance. Pick a site and post. For If you buid it they will come.

So post the site and Url that you want to sell on. And let us protect our internet income!

I left eBay and went to Amazon for about a year now. But Amazon has been getting progressively less auction-friendly, witness the deletion of tabs and raising of rates... I recently put a few items on Popula.com because that is the kind of place I would like to go. No bids there, but a lot of atmosphere. Still looking for a home, I guess.

Valerie -

I have checked out your Amazon action (because you have been so encouraging about it, and you have a nice site there). I noticed that you have a ton of books that would do great on eBay. I still have a few items on Amazon (I like the cross-listing feature to their book catalog) but the action has been extremely underwhelming.

Are you just terminally opposed to ebay or did you have a bad experience there?

I thought one day

"What would happen if all of the suddden there was no ebay? Or through a misunderstanding I was kicked out? Where would I be? "

In big trouble, because at that time I relied almost 100 % on ebay for my living.

Since then I have branched out in other venues, some even non-internet.

But I am building up on other auction sites also, I DO NOT EVER want to rely on just ebay for my livelihood.

True, ebay is the auction-site with the most action. But sellers are going to have to try other sites first, before the bidders go there, to build a selection up so they want to check it out.

Nice post, but you failed to mention a site. We are all in this thing together. I do not
care what site I go to, just so we all agree, and can help each other get the buyers
looking at it. Ed

My first instinct is to say Yahoo, but...

I haven't heard anyone mention eDeal (http://www.edeal.com). I like the concept of this auction site because it lets anyone set up their own customized auction site "powered by eDeal." The customized site blends right in with your own web site, but it can contain any or all of the listings on the eDeal site (23,802 at current count). "Partner" sites get a commission for listings placed and items purchased through their sites. eDeal also offers incentive points for buyers and sellers.

Can you imagine if eBay did that? There would be a bunch of eBay portals all over the web, with different looks and feels but the same listings. The eDeal concept is very user-oriented. I'd love to see the number of listings there increase and make it a viable alternative.

I have posted about 350 auctions on Yahoo, and I'm very pleased with the results.
The thing is that when I started posting on Yahoo, I also started BUYING on Yahoo!
I'd like to say also, that the buyers have been great-one deadbeat out of 70 sold items-that's a lot better percentage than I am getting on Ebay!
When you start to sell at another site, let your buyers know. I have been doing that, and one buyer went straight to Yahoo, registered, and bought 3 items that day-so we have at least one convert from that. We can make other sites work, but we have to help them along.

Spam under ebays rules, that were imputed when the Only a dollar march hit. OK I gambled, and lost.

A powerseller who doesn't know ebay's rules about spam? You gambled and lost connotes that you knew full well it was a "gamble" sending e-mail to prior bidders.

In any case, forgive me, edhdsn, but you've come in here gangbusters, posting threads, then posting messages in other threads referring them to your threads. I know you're upset about being suspended but a little reflection and calm seems to be in order.

You can search the message center and find plenty of past threads that discuss lots of other auction sites and the pros and cons of them. There are other boards at AW besides the Ebay Outlook which you can peruse and post questions about how good those sites are and then choose whether or not to list on those sites.

Ah wonderful, nice items to sell. Now do me a favor, grab a copy of the latest
Magazine that specializes in stamp collecting. Look at the name of the mail order company that buys a one or two page ad.

You will get to know that name very well, as this is what the search banner ads are all
about. Every time someone does a search for your product, guess who is going to
have a banner ad. That company, or one just like it.

Wholesalers are now going retail on the internet. Costs them nothing, but the ad costs and a $10.00 per hour person to answer emails, and ship product.

I hope that your items are unique, and that you will not be affected. Ed

If they sell for less than I do then I'll buy from them but in dealing with stamps it is how rare the item is that governs price..Most of mine are from the 20,30 and 40tys.

We currently have twice the number of auctions on Yahoo as Ebay, but we will stay where the bidders are. When I browse Amazon it looks pretty dead. The stuff we sell (designer clothing) does really well on Ebay, marginal on Yahoo (we sell a couple of items daily).

I haven't found any other sites that even have categories for our items. (Amazon has the categories but few listings)

If other sites want to compete with Ebay they need to widen their focus and not focus just on collectibles.

At this point, our only other option is Yahoo and business there is just too slow.

YAHOO has always been a little slow, but they have many good features!

They just did a bunch of upgrades that may cut down on the automatic relisting! Only allowing 1000 per month unless items sell! Then the number of items increases! They call it their rewards program!

XOOMAUCTIONS.COM may be another site! I may give them a try?

I have many customers I am sure will try another site if I let them know!

Many have me book marked on Yahoo and E-bay already!

Auctions.com (Auction Universe) did not listen enough to small sellers and look where they are headed!

eBay works for me. I've been suspended before & yes I admit I did it. I am probably the only person on eBay who got suspended & admits guilt. Sheesh I must feel like Morgan Freeman in 'Shawshank Redemption'. I know everyone else is innocent.

There are 200+ auction sites right now & I don't have the time to list on every site. People say Yahoo is great now. Why, because its free. No other reason why. The day they start charging a penny, all the free loaders will start whining & start e-mailing Yahoo with their 2001 questions, suggestions & start forming a relationship with Yahoo support. BTW I also use Yahoo long before all you guys start jumping on the Yahoo bandwagon.

I don't owe eBay more than the listing fees & eBay doesn't owe me dick other than making me a profit. The day I don't make money, I will be gone from eBay. BTW competition is also stiffer now in eBay. I use to be the only big time seller in my category in eBay. Now everyone from Auntie Susie to little Injun Joe is selling. Well hey, no hard feelings, they have just as much right to earn a profit as I do.

All you guys hype about how much money you make on eBay..well pretty soon all your buddies & little poodle rin tin-tin will start selling in eBay. Then form a union & whine about why your junk don't sell anymore.

I am a vocal follower, not a leader. You folks let me know what site you think is best to combat ebay and I AM there posting and trying to sell. We need to pick a site. just post and say why. See someone over rating a site. Post that information also. I played the Golds game during the "Only a Dollar" revolt. Very unhappy do to thier lack of upgrades, that were promised, as that site jumped to 100,000 auctions almost over night, and the system was slow for months, and they are still paying for it.

Oh you want to be a collector, not a seller. Where are you going to sell the items. One thing that the internet has shown to collectors. I know this market in general quite well. Is there is a lot more of the items out there that we all thought.

I have watched prices fall in Pinup art, Murano glass, California Pottery, Costume jewlery, Sports cards, Dolls, Bennie Babies, coins, and ect.

I have seen the very rare items sell, very low, and very high. Just depends on how lucky the seller is, when the auction is listed.

If the major wholesale stamp co meets your price. Who do you think the buyer is going to buy from. I will buy a reconditioned computer from IBM, before I buy from anyone on ebay, no matter how many Pos feedbacks, unless the price is alot different. That's what you are looking at with the banner ads. You have to really beat the price to sell.

Hi comic. Loved your post. How aware are you on your position on ebay. 95% of the ebay suspension and termaations are automatic.

Once suspended, the next violation reported your account is termed. Once termed, that ID is gone, even if ebay changes its mind, along with the feed back.

Back to banner ads in ebay search. This is a new concept, and ebay has been working on it for a while. Thats why our item search is so messed up. Ebay is just starting to sell the ads, they had to get the product to work first. The real ads are slowly drifting in. So do you want to see how it will work when the spots are sold? Just go to ebay search, and type in Steve Young (NFL quarterback for the SF 49ers) Let me know what you think of the link. And how you would feel If you were dealing in signed sports stuff. Ed
