Amazing - these panhandlers usually have signs that say will work for food, need job, etc. then when someone gives them a job advertising a legit business, it is called exploitation!

What gets me is not only do some have cell phones, as mentioned in a previous post, but many in the DC/Balt area are smoking cigarettes - which in this area are now up to $3-$4 pack.

The panhandlers in this area have a lucrative business, they often get in to 'turf' fights at the most popular traffic light.

There was one with a sign that said will work for food - I offered him a legit job helping with yardwork - he looked at me like I was nuts!

::I never understood the popularity of panhandling in Portland or in Seattle, especially during the cold winter months. You would think they would hitchhike down to LA or San Diego.::

Believe me Rusty...many do! San Diego has a huge homeless problem.

No, I'm saying -- I'm merely -- I'm saying what I'm saying. I don't know why I'm always having people say, are you trying to say -- you know what you can do if you want to know what I'm saying is listen to what I'm saying. What I'm saying is what I said ...

fenix, I think that some come up here during the summer. My brother talks to a 'regular' and he says he goes to Phoneix at the end of the warm weather here!

Yes how could they be exploited. If this coalition for the homeless is saying that, then they should give them the money this guy is giving them to advertise on the same signs they use to ask for money

At the mall here, there are a ton of furniture stores. Every weekend there are people wearing signs on every corner directing you to a stores
'going out of business sales' the ones that keep going out of business every weekend all summer so are these people 'human signposts' also? no, they are getting paid, just like these homeless people are.

Ok I agree that the word 'bumvertise' should go, but these people are not being exploited! The article even mentions where a panhandler turned down the 'job' this guy is offering

Caroline, I believe that! My brother, when asked for money by panhandlers, tells them he will take them to McDonalds and will buy them something to eat, and yeah, All have turned him down, except for the one that I mentioned above!

Cigarettes here are $5 + for a pack !

I saw a homeless guy this morning on my way to work. He held a sign that said "Will Show my Butt for Food".

If I would have know Classic is makinghis way across country, I would have shown him where he could find a moldy sandwich in one of the nearby dumpsters.

Bush was right. The truth did come out and the facts are he misled Congress and the American people about the reasons we should go to war in Iraq.
