I've got Nader on TV. His speech is going on 15 minutes. He started his "conclusion" 5 minutes ago, and just now started a long eulogy for an environmentalist. Although I'm no FON, it's painful and a bit disturbing to watch (I think he's included everybody but the pets.com sock puppet in those out to derail the Greens). Does he always talk like this? (I'm serious, not trying to be snide). I'm not looking for (or expecting) sound bytes, but a bit of organization would've been useful to get his points across.

it doesn't seem fair to assume that there would have been a runaway spending spree with a democrat run government-by that you mean congress? when a democrat "ran" the government for the last eight years, and economically, things seem to be pretty good right now...i'm afraid of how things might change with a "republican run government" since i can remember back far enough when that was the case (Bush, the elder, i believe?) and the economy was not so hot back then...i agree that however this turns out, i hope the powers that be will have the country's and the PEOPLE'S best interests at heart!

My, it's awfully right wing in here, isn't it? Is that why the moderator continues to let this go on, despite the fact that it has nothing to do with Ebay? If this were a Paypal thread--which actually has something to do with Ebay--it'd be shut down by now.
I think that the posters talking about "liberal" media ought to take a good unbiased look at the election coverage. The press were a lot easier on Bush than Gore.
Hey, think there's any chance Bush will show some of that character he's always talking about, and step down for the candidate who got more votes? Nah, I didn't think so. He's never shown *any* character in his life--why should he start this late in life?

I wonder if our Ebay sales will be affected
with the repression and all the unemployment that will happen once Bush is Prez? It's going to be like Reagan all over
again with that idiot running things...

I heard on the radio this morning that in USA Today they reported that 65% of the people that voted for Gore DON'T even have a high school education. What is this country turning into?

Ofcourse Hillary intends to run for President in 4 to 8 yrs. Very smart lateral move don't you think? She chose New York for her senate race because it was the most logical starting point. Didn't Bobby Kennedy do the same once?

Seems Bush's charactor showed in the conversation between him and Gore when Gore called and said oops hold on there a minute I'm taking back my congratulations.
In a response to something Bush said Gore replied, "well, you don't have to get snippy about it".
I'll throw in an eBay topic here. How many of those newspaper's with the premature headline of Bush Wins will show up on eBay?

Okay, if anything goes in here, I'm going to counteract some of that non-liberal media bias. Here's something about how Bush conducts himself in Texas, and gives some insight into his "character". It's one story of many like it, but the media doesn't seem interested.
From Shrub - The Short But Happy Political Life of George W. Bush, by Molly Ivins

Bush's hard-liner attitude toward anyone in prison includes some notorious cases. In 1985 Kevin James Byrd, a twenty-two-year-old black Houstonian, was convicted of brutally raping a pregnant woman. He was convicted on the word of the victim, who saw him in a grocery store four months after the crime and identified him as her rapist. This was four years before Houston courts began allowing DNA evidence in trials. Byrd spent twelve years in prison, always maintaining his innocence. An old friend finally gave him some financial help so he could pay for DNA tests, which proved it was not his semen in the victim.
Harris County district attorney Johnny Holmes, a Republican law-'n'-order man to the bone, and the district judge in the case and even all eighteen members of the Board of Pardons and Paroles recommended that Bush pardon Kevin Byrd. He refused to do it. This refusal caused a flap in the media, so Bush's aides announced that the governor wanted "all other legal remedies exhausted." This meant Byrd had to raise money to get his case through the state's appellate courts, even though Holmes made it clear he thought Byrd was innocent and had no intention of retrying him, even if the appears court granted a new trial. Byrd eventually got his pardon, but only after he had spent more time and more money jumping through legal hoops.

Tom~ who the heck knows....the media was wonky last nite & I think very irresponsible. Sound bites sell.Nielsons sell. Advertisers want results. However, I am starting to wonder if Brokaw and Rather are taking unfair advantage of their long term position as anchors. I think they let too much personal crap interfere with their reporting job. Where does one draw the line?
By the way, the democrats this morning SUGGESTED that Bush concede to Gore since it was "clear" that Gore had the popluar vote. They mentioned that it is critical to the country (How critical since a new prez is of no concern until Jan 20th?).
How absurd.
Tom,I am asking you if you had invested $188 million dollars in something your truly believed in would you concede?

Well, Like so many threads on AW, they'll probably end up blaming the Florida voting thing on all the Canadian snowbirds down there! You know...those damn Canadians, not only are they slow in paying, now they are somehow slowing down the voting!

Everyone,
I'm sorry, I'm going to have to lock this thread because it doesn't concern auctions or eBay. I've allowed it to continue because of the historical significance of the election and I understand the wish to discuss it.
If you wish to continue the discussion, I urge you to open a thread in the Round Table. It's a topic of great interest; it's just in the wrong forum here in the eBay Outlook.

What gets me is that if Bush is confirmed as the electoral winner, it will be the first time since 1988 that we have a President who did not win the popular vote.
This makes as much sense as some of eBay's business decisions.
One-man, one-vote means nothing.
The Electoral College needs to be scrapped.
The president should be elected by popular vote, plain and simple.

Interesting that many people seem to equate a Republican presidency with less government spending.
PRESIDENT---% INCREASE in NATIONAL DEBT
JOHNSON (D)---3.2%
NIXON (R)---6.7%
FORD (R)---14.1%
CARTER (D)---10.4%
REAGAN (R)---23.6%
BUSH (R)---13.5%
CLINTON (D)---4.7%
