Eventer: No one knew how much Redskinfan was paid via Paypal.

I made an "example transaction" above and you basically said "this was a cost of doing business" and basically no matter what the cost, the seller should eat the difference, blah blah blah.

NOW, you think that the seller is charged $28 and the tables are all turned around?

Please tell me - what YOU consider a "cost of doing business" and what you think the difference should be between "eating the difference" and "holding the buyer responsible for their mistakes".

redskinfan,

Good Lord! What a mess! Does anyone sell on ebay who's id is close to your PayPal ID? Does it have any kind of auction number associated with it?

Where's Paypaydamon when you need him! I would definately get him involved.

ExecutiveGirl,

If you don't know where the line is drawn, then I doubt seriously anything I could say would make a difference.

And here I thought it was going to be a "good day".

Eventer: I wasn't asking you so you could help ME.. I don't have these payment problems anymore I was asking you to see what YOU consider "the cost of doing business" since you've now shown than 50¢ is a "cost of doing business" and $28.00 is NOT. Just wondering where YOU draw the line.

Don't you have the ID or e-mail address of the person that sent you the money? Maybe do a bidder search and see what they were bidding on?

Redskinfan: Just out of curiousity - you don't sell women's clothing, do you???

(I say that because I do and all the weird stuff happens to me!)

ExecutiveGirl,

: I wasn't asking you so you could help ME

My mistake, your posts often tend to indicate you need help, so thought I would respond to your post.

since you've now shown than 50¢ is a "cost of doing business" and $28.00 is NOT

Please show me where EXACTLY I said that. For some large companies, I'm sure $28.00 is a drop in the bucket.

For redskinfan, I understand that $28.00 would most likely be more than he/she can absorb.

Me, personally? Exactly what does knowing that have to do with redskinfan's question?

But since some inquiring minds seem to have to know, I've absorbed more than this as a cost of doing business when the situation has called for it.

Redskinfan, can relatives put money into your account? Maybe that is it?

Or maybe someone has read your daily troubles for the past few weeks and beamed you some money to make you feel better?

redskinfan,

My apologies for your thread getting off track.

It's a beautiful day outside & there are fences waiting to be jumped & horses waiting to jump them, so hope you get the assistance you need to resolve this situation.

Best of luck in whatever approach you decide to take.

You know.........it really could be that someone intended you to have this money......one way to find out........contact them.........Once I had someone pay me with stolen funds.......I was on my toes.......suspected something.....and did not ship the item............but when Paypal took the money back......they did refund all fees involved. My experience with Paypal has been wonderful. Even in the above situation. I recently signed up with Billpoint because I had a number of recent requests to do so.........so far I have had 3 problems, poor to no customer service and just don't like the service.......

That is my two cents.......for what it is worth.......

Well....I had sent an email to the addy associated with the pp account and it bounced. I did a search on ebay and the email doesn't have an account.

I am assuming it has something to do with ebay...but I've done auctions on bidville and yahoo as well. I just don't know now...

I am getting a kick at seeing that $ amount staring at me now though.

i can't help but to ask ...

"Once you find out (or don't find out), refund their money MINUS your Paypal fee."

this statement about keeping a stranger's money, for a simple, and most likely honest mistake on their part, is from the same seller who says they do everything by the book - honestly - when it comes to filling out custom declarations, and everything else in life???

shouldn't the beef here be with PayPal, and the ability to get a refund of fees from PayPal when one of THEIR customers makes a mistake that affects you?

looks like being "honest" only applies when when it is someone else that stands to lose money. when it is yourself, honesty and "right" goes out the window.

I agree with you that it should be PayPal's responsibility to credit the fees.
I don't believe PP knows what honesty is.

There are many on here that think this seller should NOT have to pay the fees and I am one of them! They are NOT DISHONEST!! I am NOT DISHONEST!!!

The seller is not being dishonest by taking out the fees!! If you think that the seller is "stealing"...what about the customer? They in essence would be taking money away from this seller unjustly!
Just because I am a seller...does not mean that I have to take a loss for a customers mistake!

We should all take responsibility for our mistakes!
If I were that customer, I would not expect the seller to pay for my mistake...but then....I AM HONEST.
So what you are saying...if you were the customer, you expect this seller to take a loss for YOUR MISTAKE? You call that HONESTY?

The fact is this person is not even his customer ~ and if he does not get his fees refunded, then it seams to me that he is the one being stolen from..........

I will point out that if the email address of the paypay account does not work, then I belive it is highly possible that the person that did this..........well might be up to no good...........I would change my Paypal password and get in touch with Paypal asap.

I would be trying to give the money back. The $28.00 worth of fees, I would keep (or recoup would be a better word, since this has already been subtracted)

I'll eat the cost of any screwup that is my fault, but why would anyone think redskinfan owes this person their $28 back. He isn't the one who screwed up, and he didn't get the 28 bucks, paypal did.

Personaly, If I beamed someone that much money by mistake, I would be very greatful to get it back minus the fees and without a hassle.

I would also *think* that paypal could refund these fees if this was an honest mistake. Of course they where the ones who said 'always free'.

If they paid you with a credit card and you send the money back they could then do a chargeback and you would be paying them twice!!! I would be careful about sending any money back until I knew more about this deal.

Good Luck,

Since you're dealing with SERIOUS money here, I would recommend that you call PayPal BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. Here are a couple of phone numbers for PayPal:

(800) 836-1859
(877) 672-9725

By contacting PayPal directly, you can let them know up front that IF THERE IS a scam going on, you're an innocent party and have nothing to do with it. Otherwise, your money AND your PayPal account could be in jeopardy.

Good luck!

I agree with trkirk and dubyasdaman.

This sounds like a cc scam. Who accidentally sends $1250 to the wrong person?
I would not send any money anywhere until you get in touch with paypal personally.

On the plus side, if you have the Money Market going on your account, you're at least earning interest on the money while you're holding on to it. 8)

I'd definitely contact Paypal and get them in on this.

Hi redskinsfan,

Has there been any correspondence with the sender of the money? There is a possibility they had an error in the email address. I can take a look at the transaction, but I can't make a judgment call on it.

I can't contact the sender of this money because the emails bounce. And now I can't pay any of my sellers because it automatically takes it from the amount in the account. So my account is vertually frozen until the matter is figured out. I might have to withdraw the money and put it in the bank account I have for paypal so that if the person does come hollaring for it, the money will still be available to give them. But I still don't think it's fair that I'll have to pay $28.00 in fees for this transaction. It wasn't my fault. Maybe I should open a market account and recoup some of that $28 from the interest?? lol this is crazy.

Weird stuff happens to me every April. April and January are my bad months when life goes to heck. This month is still better than it was last year when I found out my boyfriend was married with 3 current wives. He had proposed to me too. I just have that kinda luck I guess.
